Soap News: Y&R leads NAACP noms, Soap Stars Engaged, AMC vet returns and more

— The nominations are in for the 41st annual NAACP Image awards with stars from The Young and the Restless in the lead. For outstanding actor in a daytime drama series, the nominees are Bryton James (Devon, Y&R), Cassius Willis (ex-Detective Gil Wallace, Y&R), Cornelius Smith, Jr (Frankie, AMC), Terrell Tilford (Greg, OLTL) and Texas Battle (Marcus, B&B). The outstanding actress in a daytime drama series nominees are Daphne Duplaix (Rachel, OLTL), Debbi Morgan (Angie, AMC), Eva Marcelle (ex-Tyra, Y&R), Tatyana Ali (Roxanne, Y&R) and Tonya Lee Williams (Olivia, Y&R). The awards will be handed on on Friday, February 26th at 8pm on Fox. The sad thing is that only one of the Y&R stars is on contract (James), while Willis and Marcelle aren’t even on the show anymore. Also, recurring stars Ali and Williams are severely underused — Williams hasn’t appeared since before last summer.

— Y&R star Adrienne Frantz (Amber) announced on Facebook yesterday evening that she is engaged to longtime boyfriend Scott Bailey (ex-Sandy, GL). Congratulations to the happy couple. The photo above of Frantz and Bailey was taken at the LA premiere of Youth in Revolt this past Wednesday. Frantz was previously linked to Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik.

Julia Barr will return to All My Children on Feb. 23rd in what her rep tells Soap Opera Digest will be “a great story arc.” Barr returned briefly this past week for the soap’s 40th anniversary special and originally joined the series in 1976 and quit in 2006 when the show wanted to drop her to recurring status.

Mark Pinter who played the evil Grant Harrison on Another World will return to General Hospital on Jan. 26th as FBI Agent Thomas Rayner.

Reported earlier this week…If you missed my post about Victoria Rowell’s confirmation that she’s joining The Real Housewives of Atlanta, check it out here. Online buzz about that Vanessa Marcil returning to General Hospital went into overdrive yesterday. Also, CBS thought the bar’s of soap that the Save Our Soaps campaign sent them were anthrax – the FBI is now involved with the cause to save As The World Turns!
