The TV Watercooler

24, The Hills, Glee and more

— I know a lot of critics are okay with 24 ending after this season but I just wish we had more time. I think ABC did a great job at announcing the final season of Lost a head of time. Fans gradually prepared themselves for the end and ABC has had the chance to really promote the final season. Fox would have been wise to do the same for 24. At least we’ll have an upcoming movie to look forward to. For those who are pretty sure they won’t kill off Jack Bauer because of the movie, they could always set the film’s timeline in between the televised seasons.

The concept of Katee Sackoff starring in this season’s 24 looked so much better on paper. I’m glad they tied her pathetic character to the terrorists.

— According to E!, Matt Damon will appear on 30 Rock as a love interest for Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon.

— The final season of The Hills begins on Tuesday, April 27th and here’s the trailer. I’m actually impressed that they’ll be tackling Heidi’s plastic surgery. And are they seriously doing a Kristen/Brody/Stacie-the-bartender triangle?

— Meanwhile, The City returns a day later in Canada, Wednesday, April 28th and I’m excited for Whitney vs. Olivia this season…they barely appeared together in the second half of the first season.

— Why is NBC stealing Party Down cast members? First they got a hold of Adam Scott for Parks & Recreation and now they’ve cast Ryan Hansen (also Dick Casablancas on Veronica Mars) as the male lead in their new pilot, Friends with Benefits which will co-star Daneel Harris (One Tree Hill).

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zack Galifianakis have inked a $5 million deal (plus 4% of first-dollar profits) for The Hangover 2. Justin Bartha is also expected to return. The sequel should hit theatres in May 2011.

— Some big Glee updates today, when the show returns on April 13th, they’ve got an awkward post-American Idol timeslot of 9:25pm, but don’t worry – it’s just for that week. The first episode deals with the New Directions pareparing for the upcoming regionals, now that the sectionals are over. Rachel and Finn’s promising romance hits a snag when she gets too close to Jesse St. James, a rival from the competing Vocal Adrenaline. Idina Menzel will appear as their coach.

The following week is the Madonna themed episode. The back-nine episodes will also feature Neil Patrick Harris, Molly Shannon, Jennifer Lopez, Olivia Newton-John and Lady Gaga – where the cast will perform “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face.” Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly this morning that the cast will even be wearing Lady Gaga-inspired outfits.
