Betty White on SNL, Gossip Girl in Paris, 24 and more

— How awesome was Betty White on Saturday Night Live this past weekend? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a funnier episode ever…except for maybe that time I was 4 snuck into the TV room to watch SNL and found out that Santa wasn’t real.

Anyway, I was worried all week that the show would once again let us all down (just like the Gabourey Sidibe episode did a couple of weeks ago). Betty White even made the “MacGruber” sketches tolerable. It was also great seeing Tina Fey, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch again.

My favourite sketches were probably “Gingey”, where the grandmother of a large number of girls was the only one who realized that tomboy Gingey was a lesbian. And of course, “NPR’s Delicious Dish” which featured White’s “dusty muffin.” Learned quite a lot from that sketch, like how a yeasty muffin can not only ruin your entire day, but week.

It’s going to be really hard to top all that next week but at least they’ve got Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performing Alec Baldwin hosting. Hopefully they’ll convince Shannon and Gasteyer to appear again so that they could join Baldwin for an NPR “Schweaty Balls” reunion.

Jay-Z also did a great job performing a medley of “P.S.A.”, “99 Problems” and “Empire State of Mind” (with some teases of “On to the Next One” and “03 Bonnie & Clyde”). Bridget Kelly stepped in for Alicia Keys in “Empire State of Mind” while Mr. Hudson tried his best to cover Alphaville’s “Forever Young”.

New York Magazine has revealed that the first two episodes of Gossip Girl’s fourth season will be shot and set in Paris. So far, Serena (Blake Lively), Blair (Leighton Meester) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) will make the trek.

The TV Addict was wise to discover a bunch of new Twitter accounts for some new shows that NBC could very well be picking up. Among them are the Rockford Files update and Beach Lane (starring Matthew Broderick). It’s a shame NBC has yet to create one for @Chuck_Season4.

— Meanwhile, NBC has also picked up Love Bites which stars Becki Newton (Amanda from Ugly Betty). The hourlong rom-com will also star My Boys’ Jordana Spiro.

— Expect a brand new cast for the third season of Jersey Shore. Snooki and the gang will still appear in the second season, which debuts on July 29th.

— With 24 ending this season, I think that I’ll probably miss Chloe O’Brien the most. So much so, that I’ll probably check out Royal Pains when Mary Lynn Rajskub guest stars.

— Meanwhile, Katee Sackhoff, who recently wrapped up her stint as 24’s evil bitch Dana Walsh, revealed that the reason why she turned down the role of Debbie on True Blood was because she wanted to be on a show for more than a season. Sackhoff instead signed on to Boston’s Finest, an ABC procedural.
