Soap News: James Franco returns to GH, Adrienne Frantz bring Amber back to B&B and AMC recasts Bianca

James Franco will return to General Hospital on June 30th as psycho artist Franco. Expect Franco to kick off an explosive summer storyline that will involve Jason (of course) and Dante. “Working on General Hospital was a great experience. I love the cast, writers, directors and producers. They have become a new family for me. I can’t wait for the work we will do this summer,” said Franco in an ABC press release.

— As expected, Adrienne Frantz is bringing Amber Moore back to The Bold and the Beautiful. Frantz, who last aired as Amber on The Young and the Restless last week, began taping at B&B yesterday and will first appear on July 1st.

— The Guinness World Records named The Bold and the Beautiful the ‘Most Popular Daytime TV Soap’ yesterday. The L.A.-set soap airs across 110 countries.

— Looks like the “wrong” Lucy is headed back to As the World Turns. Sarah Glendening will return to ATWT later this summer as Lucy Montgomery. Couldn’t they have convinced fan fav Peyton List to return before the series’ end? It’s the only way they could really capitalize on the “Lusty” (Lucy and Dusty [Grayson McCouch]) pairing.

— That was fast! Former All My Children star Eden Riegel has been on The Young and the Restless for about a week (as the new Heather) and ABC has already found a new Bianca. Christina Bennett Lind has been tapped to assume the role of Erica’s (Susan Lucci) daughter and will first air on June 14th. Bianca returns to Pine Valley in the aftermath of Erica’s plane crash and will face-off with Greenlee (Rebecca Budig).

Lee Meriwether will return to AMC later this month as Ruth Martin Jake plans to remarry Amanda.

Regis Philbin has been tapped as host of this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards on June 27th. You can check out the nominees here.

One Life to Live has placed Shenell Edmonds on contract. The actress has been playing the role of Destiny Evans since last February.

Daytime Confidential is exclusively reporting that David Hasselhoff’s daughter Taylor Ann will be appearing alongside her father when he returns to the soap next month as Snapper Foster (Taylor Ann will play a nurse). The Hoff’s return to the soap will be featured on his upcoming A&E reality series. The soap blog also teases that Snapper will be revealing the truth about Jill’s (Jess Walton) paternity and that she has a biological sibling living in Genoa City.

— In crazy news…Did you know that Passions rejected Sawyer?! True – Galen Gering (Rafe, Days of our Lives; ex-Luis, Passions) revealed in TV Guide’s The Cast of ‘Lost’ Before They Were TV Stars that his buddy Josh Holloway was actually turned down for a role on the cancelled NBC soap.
