Soap News: Daytime Emmys Wrap Up and more

As The World Turns was the big winner at the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards last Sunday with Michael Park (Jack) and Maura West (Carly) getting much deserved top honours as outstanding lead actor and actress. Hopefully CarJack and their fans will get a happy ending when the show last airs on September 17th. Julie Pinson (Janet, ATWT) took home the award for supporting actress while Billy Miller (Billy, Y&R) won supporting actor. General Hospital’s Julie Marie Berman (Lulu) won outstanding younger actress for the second year in a row. The night’s biggest upset was The Bold and the Beautiful’s Drew Tyler Bell (Thomas) winning over GH’s Drew Garrett (ex-Michael). GH won for best directing team while B&B won for best writing and drama series (for the second year).

— Here’s a recap of all the latest comings and goings over at The Young and the Restless. Eric Roberts is set to play Adam’s attorney on The Young and the Restless beginning Friday and will air through August. The film star previously appeared on Another World in 1977 as Ted. Y&R has dropped Stacy Haiduk (Patty/Emily) but Days of our Lives has quickly scooped her up. Haiduk will portray a prison warden this September in Salem. Although I’m not a big fan of Emily, Haiduk’s performance as Patty has been really good. Granted, I’m an Adam fan – I actually felt really bad for Patty this past week when Adam tormented her in the hospital. Wilson Blethel (Ryder) is also on his way out which is another shame…for some reason they see fit to get rid of two great actors in favor of once upon a time movie stars like Sean Young who will reprise her role as Meggie, the barmaid from Ottawa. Why not write for Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki)?

— Is Vanessa Marcil married? Looks like fans were just as confused as the returning General Hospital star was when she walked onto the stage at the Emmy Awards and didn’t know where the teleprompter would be. Host Regis Philbin introduced the actress as Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo. Looks like she finally beat her ex Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox to the altar (although just about) and married CSI: New York star Carmine Giovinazzo. When Brenda returns on August 12, expect her to be working at a children’s charity in Rome alongside Adrienne Barbeau’s Suzanne. Barbeau portrayed Carol on Maude.

— Online chatter suggests that Terri Colombino (Katie, ATWT) is set to move over to Y&R once ATWT goes dark while General Hospital is interested in Maura West (Carly) for a storyarc and Michael Park is being considered for a role on One Life to Live. Rumors are also circulating that Clementine Ford is on her way out as Y&R’s Mac.

— Here’s the extended ATWT tribute that you didn’t get to see at the Emmys:
