General Hospital Saved!

Deadline is reporting that ABC will announce that they’ll be cancelling the low-rated The Revolution and renewing their last remaining soap, General Hospital.

Good news for soap fans (and James Franco).

Deadline is reporting that ABC will announce that they’ll be cancelling the low-rated The Revolution and renewing their last remaining soap, General Hospital. The lifestyle reality show replaced One Life to Live this past January and is expected to last air this July.

Last April, ABC shocked the industry by cancelling both All My Children and One Life to Live. AMC last aired in September, when it was replaced by The Chew – an ill-named reality series.

Cancellation rumours have plagued GH since last summer when it was revealed that ABC was giving its timeslot back to the affiliates so they could air Katie Couric’s new series. ABC brought in soap opera dream team Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini as head writer and executive producer once OLTL went off the air.

Look for GH to move from its traditional 3 p.m. ET timeslot to the 2 p.m. slot beginning September 10th. GMA In the Afternoon – a Good Morning America spinoff will air for nine weeks this summer once The Revolution goes off the air.

A big congratulations and thank you to not only Ron and Frank, but the rest of the crew and cast – because not only did the cast bring their A-game once the new regime’s material began airing, but turned “shit into gold” (so to speak back) when Jill Farren Phelps and Robert Guza, Jr. were destroying the beloved sudser for years.

The bottom line right now is that GH has been saved for the time being, but ratings need to go up this summer. ABC testing the Good Morning America spinoff this Summer proves that the network isn’t completely behind the soap yet, so fans need to keep watching and get those ratings up.

(Now, if only they could bring back Brenda, Laura, Robin, Lucky, Nikolas, Emily, Jax, Alan, AJ…)
