Welcome back to
this week’s edition of MSN at the Movies
where we’ll take a look at this weekend’s new theatrical releases (including
the Carrie remake, TIFF winner 12 Years a Slave) and check out which favourites
are playing on TV.
In theatres
If you like
horror, and well, Halloween is right around the corner, you’re best pick is
definitely Carrie. The remake of the
1976 classic sees Chloë Grace Moretz taking over the titular role from Sissy Spacek
while Julianne Moore plays Carrie’s mother. MSN got to visit the Toronto set,
so we’ve gone a ton of interviews for you to choose from including one with “Carrie”
herself! Chloë Grace
Moretz tells us to expect a “darker”
and “more twisted” take on the Stephen King story. While everyone harps
on remakes, director Kimberly Peirce saw
this opportunity to do “something different.” We also spoke with Judy
Greer, known commonly as “the best friend” in rom com’s and Kitty Sanchez on Arrested Development, who discussed how
the bullying
in this story so much more impactful in present-day. We also chatted
with some of the new younger stars, including Gabriella Wilde, Alex Russell and
Portia Doubleday, here.

If you’re
looking for something a little more serious, check out 12 Years a Slave. It has gotten rave
reviews and won the People’s Choice Award at last month’s TIFF.
The film boasts an impressive cast including both Michael Fassbender and Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as
Brad Pitt, Alfre Woodward, Quvenzhane Wallis, Garret Dillahunt, Taran Killam
(!), Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti and keep an eye on Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita

The
reviews for Fifth Estate aren’t that favourable,
which should make Julian Assange pretty
happy. But we do have some content around that if you’d like to check
it out. We spoke to both the at TIFF, Cumberbatch spoke
to us about how he got into the character while Daniel Bruhl discusses
playing not one but two historical figures this past year. If you’re

you’re looking for a comedy of sorts, you could check out Cottage Country. We’ve got an interview

Escape Plan, the Sylvester Stallone/Arnold

At home
Pacific Rim and The
Heat are available for home viewing. If you’re looking for something a
little different, there’s Maniac starring
Elijah Wood as well as Black Rock
which comes from Mark Duplass and stars his real-life wife/The League co-star Katie Anselton. We

On TV
Zombie-love
flick Warm Bodies airs tonight on The
Movie Network at 7:15 with Seven Psychopaths
(9 p.m.) and The Bourne Legacy (11
p.m.) following. Sixteen Candles also
airs at 8 p.m. on CHCH. Tomorrow, The
Movie Network also have another double header worth checking out (for the
family) with Cloud Atlas (2:30 p.m.)
and Hotel Transylvania (5:25 p.m.)
For something a little more fun, there’s The
Campaign at 3 p.m. on M Fun. The Kirsten Bell/Betty White comedy, You Again airs Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on
W.

cares about who’ll play Christian Grey when we’re far more interested in who’ll
