Soap News: Major Y&R Spoiler – Billy Miller and Michael Muhney’s exit and more!

the young and the restless billy miller michael muhney

— Returning Y&R star David Tom revealed to TV Guide that the show actually made the actor audition for his old role, however he didn’t know it was his old role at the time: “I was in New York when they were holding auditions, so I put myself on tape and sent it in. The Billy recast was supposed to be a secret so they first told me I was auditioning for Paul’s son. I said, ‘Won’t that be kinda odd for me to come back to the show as someone different?’ And they were, like, ‘Naaah…don’t worry about it!’ [Laughs] Now we know why. They finally told me what was really going on the day before my screen test because they had to –it was a scene with Billy and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) talking about Delia.”

Cover your eyes Y&R fans – there’s an extreme spoiler alert regarding the Billy switch and what happens to Michael Muhney’s Adam. Continue at your own risk!

So how will David Tom ease into his former role? Or more importantly, how will Billy Miller and Michael Muhney exit the top-rated soap? I’m hearing the actors will exit the show together in scenes that will air on January 29 in Canada (airs Jan. 30 in the U.S.).

Once Billy finds out that Adam is responsible for his daughter Delia’s death, they’ll end up in a car and will fight over a gun. During the struggle, the car goes over a cliff. When Billy emerges from the wreckage on January 31 (in Canada; February 3 in the U.S.), he’ll look like David Tom.

Will Adam die? Probably not, don’t be surprised if we see Adam’s hand or something.

It’s a shame that the writing for the serial hasn’t improved as it’s recycling a couple of its former clichéd plots. Adam was presumed dead once before and it’s also reminiscent of when Dru (Victoria Rowell) and Sharon (Sharon Case) fell off that cliff with only Sharon resurfacing.  At least Miller and Muhney are getting a better sendoff than what Michelle Stafford got (Phyllis fell down a flight of stairs).

While General Hospital has gone on location this past year, don’t expect The Young and the Restless to do so with these scenes. I’m also hearing that these scenes were shot at the studio.

So are viewers supposed to buy that Adam really did kill Delia? It seems that way for now. We can’t forget that Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) was also seen driving that dark road the night Billy and Chloe’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) daughter. Another suspect is Kelly Andrews (Cynthia Watros) as the name “Kelly White” appeared as one of the owners of the black SUV that was in the area of the accident. Many are speculating that Kelly Andrews and Kelly White are one and the same. But given that Watros has been well received, the writers could wait to re-write Delia’s killer once they decide to bring back the character of Adam Newman.

The rest of this week’s soap news:

— CBS has some great news for soap fans at TCA this week. They’ve renewed their entire daytime lineup, including The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, for the 2014-2015 season. CBS also stated that Y&R has received a three-year pickup, keeping the Sony soap on the network until at least 2017.

— Former General Hospital star Nathan Parsons (ex-Ethan) will be quite busy. He’s been cast as the new James on True Blood next season, replacing Luke Grimes (Brothers & Sisters). Parsons will also recur on The Originals as Jackson, one of Haley’s (Phoebe Tonkin) werewolf acquaintances.

— Great ratings news for all four soaps continue this week with the networks celebrating the latest weekly figures. At CBS, The Young and the Restless delivered its best week since January 1, 2010 with 5.47 million viewers while The Bold and the Beautiful scored its largest audience since February 29, 2008 with 4.14 million viewers. NBC’s Days of our Lives reached its highest women 18-49 rating since November 21, 2011 when EJ (James Scott) hooked up with Abigail (Kate Mansi). As for ABC’s General Hospital, the soap reached an impressive 3.55 million viewers on Tuesday, January 7 (Nathan told Sam about Silas’ wife and Heather kidnapped Carly after her visit with Sonny) – the most-watched episodes since November 12, 2007 (the day Lucky found out Jason was baby Jake’s father and the other fallout from the infamous black and white ball).

— Don’t miss Orphan Black and former As the World Turns star Dylan Bruce on Lifetime’s Flowers in the Attic tomorrow at 8 p.m.

— Canuck Jennifer Finnigan (ex-Bridget, B&B) has become an American citizen.

— Ouch! GH’s Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) will soon be sporting a cast. The actress broke her wrist after falling off a skateboard. Fans will remember she cracked her femur bone last year and writers wrote it into the show when Frisco made her slip on some ice. The actress told Soaps in Depth that the show will work around her injury again.

— HLN has told Soaps in Depth that they currently have no plans to broadcast this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards telecast.

The irony of Billy and Adam’s storyline?
Billy is the killer. Not Adam. Not Nikki. Not Kelly White or Andrews.
In many states it is illegal to leave a child or a pet unattended in a vehicle. Billy did both. Further, if the idiot writers at #YR knew how to properly research a story – instead of just firing out crap from the seat of their pants, no pun intended – then they would know that BILLY is indeed responsible for his child’s death.
It’s called “CHILD NEGLECT.” And it happens all the freakin’ time.
    (Except in soap operas, apparently.)
The law says that if a child, through neglect of his or her parent or guardian, is killed as a result of that neglect, the parent/guardian is guilty of a D Felony, and can be charged with manslaughter.

Billy left Delia alone in the car, with a dog. At night.
IF she had run off, gotten lost and died of exposure before being found, whose fault would it be? Billy’s.
IF she had been bit in the neck by her dog, bled out and died, whose fault would it be? Billy’s.

BILLY left his child alone, and she wandered off and was hit by a car. HIS FAULT.
The driver of the vehicle – who obviously did not see a child – could have been anyone.
The driver of the vehicle, in fact, could be any one of US driving down a dark road and swerving to avoid hitting a small dog.

Delia is dead because of her father’s despicable and reckless decision. BILLY is the “killer” here, and no one else.

I stopped watching when I realized that the brain dead writers – who inexplicably chose to write this SL in order to turn us against Adam (I guess?) really don’t give a crap about the law, or about sending a proper message to parents out there who may choose to do the same disgusting thing as Billy Abbott.
They could have made this story into a cautionary tale; a way of demonstrating exactly what happens when a parent or guardian makes the decision to leave their kid alone… “just for a minute.” They could have demonstrated to us all just what exactly happens in real life if a parent is found to have caused his or her child’s death.

For one, the Genoa City cops could have at least LECTURED Billy on leaving his child alone.
(Ask any cop in real life, they’ll tell you that they’re pretty sick and effin’ tired of dealing with dead kids after stupid parents leave them unattended.)
Real life cops – if the writers had done this properly – would have read Billy the riot act. They would have him sitting in a hot seat, attempting to explain WHAT ON EARTH HE WAS THINKING when he left his kid alone.
    In a car.
    At night.
    With a dog.

But nope. The GC cops didn’t do squat. In fact, they “coddled” Billy – much as every other person in his life – and they LET HIM OFF THE HOOK.
Worse, they immediately began calling this a “hit and run” when the evidence suggested that the driver – NOT a “killer” or a “murderer” – didn’t even see that there was a child sitting at the side of the road.

This SL has been a disaster from DAY ONE, and it looks like it’s going to end in just as sad and pathetic as it began.
The writers of the Young and The Restless have done nothing but INSULT responsible parents and cops everywhere with this appalling story.
(Not to mention paramedics, who have to clean up the messes each and every time parents like Billy screw up.)

IF this story was written to turn us against ADAM, or Michael Muhney – it was an epic fail.
They have insulted MY intelligence, and they have turned me against this once great show.
And it was a disgusting example of ignorance. A refusal to acknowledge real life law, and tell a decent and compelling REAL LIFE story.
Instead, they chose to write this garbage.
Each time Chavez or Kevin or Paul calls the driver a “killer” I want to punch something.
    This story is a DISGRACE.

Couldn’t agree more…the only one that acted realistically through this whole tragedy was Chloe when she went ballistic on Billy. But two days later she had “come to her senses” and forgiven him. I don’t know anyone who likes the character of Kelly and I can’t stand Dylan. He’s Jason Morgan without the edge.

I totally agree. The only thing that has made the bad writing tolerable has been the great acting by Billy Miller and Michael Muhney. Now that will be gone so what does Y & R have left? Nothing!

I was hoping the least they could do is send Adam off in a blaze of glory. Perhaps he could have saved the life of Billy and Victoria’s baby boy by throwing himself in front of an oncoming car–this, only after we find out that Kelly ran over Cordelia. (By the way, not sure what this writer is smoking, but Kelly is most certainly NOT well received at all–no one likes her–not even those who dislike Victoria). We viewers saw Adam stop his car when he thought he may have injured the dog. He got out and did a thorough check. When he saw that he had not hit the dog he got in. There is no way based on what we saw that he hit a child.

I meant he got back into the car–sorry for my incomplete sentence. But allow me to stress that fans already feel cheated that they are being deprived of the brilliance of MM who has made the Adam character his own, the least they could do is give this actor and a character a respectful send off. It’s sad that they cannot even do this. This actor transcended the bad writing–many of us watched just for him. I do not feel they should even remotely consider recasting this role but of course they will.

Well written T. I sooooo agree with you. The writing on Y&R has been horrible. They are writing the show into the ground. The acting of Billy Miller and Michael Muhney has been fantastic. What a shame Y&R is letting 2 of the best actors on the show go. Huge mistake…

I really like billy Miller and his portrayal of Billy, so it really pains me to have to agree with you, he is ultimately responsible for delia’s death.

T- although I think the first part of what you said was little over top because we’re talking a about a soap and we suspend reality for sake of drama. I think it’s just too obvious of apoint to rant like that when everyone gets that Billy’s negligence should have warranted consequences. Most of us are smart enough to draw that conclusion. That being said. .the rest of your rant is so damn on point that I wish I had written it.

First of all, Summer does not have an addiction to drugs, she only took them the one time and she took 3, that’s is why she passed out. So Billy gets out of the accident unscaved and just walks off and leaves Adam in the car therefore we are left hanging as to what happens with Adam, that is one stupid S/L. What about Chelsea, is she left thinking Adam ran out on her? I’m glad I don ‘t watch this show anymore, I can see the S/L have not changed but with Jilly doing the writing no surprise there. Adam, honey, you don’t count for much on this soap if that’s the way they are going to treat you.

This is the best these so called writers could do to resolve this horrible I’ll thought out storyline on Y&R.So Adam is again presumed dead and Billy comes back with a new face. Also,Kelly is supposedly well received, by whom? Every site I’ve read has full threads for the hatred of this character. The writing has been stale and these anemic and long drawn out story lines keep continuing.Oh well, seems like TPTB of this show are as delusional as they are stupid.

Now with Jill as your producer you should also throw in the towel cause with MM, BM and the fans all gone Y&R will be all gone to in a matter of time. Then maybe you will listen to us fans. #teammuhney is a strong group of fans that back MM.

You are so right, they should hold Billy responsible for his child’s death, for in real life it is the parents fault any where in the us, if you leave a child under the age of 14 Yrs.’ old alone in the vehicle knowing quite well they are mischief and wonder out of the vehicle alone whiles parents are shopping in the store , all’s it takes is a couple of minutes and boom there gone, or a stranger moves in on them whiles in the vehicle alone, so on the shows it should be done in the right manner on that subject for the reason of false messages given to the public including to real life children that they can do this and someone else will get the blame for their parents mistakes. not, they really need to rewrite this one so it compares to the real world mistakes of wrong moves parents do. So parents watching will get it through their heads not to do it , or the consequence of it will be harsh. that is were they need to place the blame on this accident for real life parents to see it and know what will happen to them in real life if they continue to do the same with their children here in the USA, not show a false charge against the one whom did it when it was late at night and it was the parents fault not the driver for leaving a small child in the vehicle along to start with. they need to place more real life issues in the soaps to draw more people’s attention to the show , to see what happens to them when they do the wrong moves in their family life’s , that is how the shows should be written out , to do with real life things that happen then it would be really interesting to watch, including the real life consequences’ of their mistakes like leaving a child alone, child abductions, rape, beatings of spouse, with law involved showing real legal actions, thieves , and so on if they’d do this they’d get the whole world involved in their show due to the fact of it being like a real detective type show mixed with soap actions and so on, more and more people are into detective type shows with real life actual happenings.

The online community is but a VERY small fraction of the soap audience, so CW being well received doesn’t sound and isn’t far fetched…plus, they said CYNTHIA WATROS, not KELLY. There are plenty of characters people don’t like, but love the actor.

Because no one will be able to play their parts as good as they did. Another thing what’s up with Sharon letting Nick think he’s not Summer father.
