The five surviving members of Monty Python said goodbye in their finale show at London’s O2 Area on Sunday. The event was broadcast worldwide via satellite to more than 1,500 theatres (but “0 viewers in Brazil”).
John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin took their final bow together after performing “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” and were joined by Monty Python’s Flying Circus regular Carol Cleveland, with late Python Graham Chapman receiving special tribute while Mike Meyers, Eddie Izzard and Stephen Hawking made guest appearances.
The Monty Python troop first appeared together on the BBC series, Flying Circus from 1969 to 1974. The Pythons moved to the big screen with And Now for Something Completely Different in 1971, Monty Python and the Holy Grail in 1975, followed by Monty Python’s Life of Brian in 1979. They reunited for stage show in 1982, Monty Python Life at the Hollywood Bowl while their final film, Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life premiered in 1983.
In Canada, Monty Python Live (mostly) was screened at Cineplex locations via Front Row Centre Events and will rebroadcast on July 23rd and 31st (check out cineplex.comfor showtimes).
The Pythons performed a medley of classic sketches including Spam, the Penis Song, I Like Chinese (although censored), the Lumberjack Song, and of course, the Dead Parrot.
Comedy fans should definitely check it out to see the sketch legends. You’ll even score some points with your parents.
Cineplex will also screen Meaning of Life (July 24), Monty Python’s Life of Brian (July 27) and Monty Python and the Holy Grail (July 30) in select theatres.
