The Young and the Restless has finally found it’s new Adam Newman aka Victor Newman Jr. TV Guide reports that Justin Hartley will begin taking in September and first air as the new Adam this November.

The actor is returning to his daytime roots, having appeared on Passions as Fox Crane from 2002 until 2006. He later found success by appearing on Smallville, Chuck, Emily Owens M.D. and most recently Revenge and Mistresses.

“It’s all about story and character with me and I don’t care if the job is on daytime or primetime or the web. Hey, give me a good character and someone to listen and I’ll do my acting on a street corner,” said Hartley when asked if he considered his Y&R gig a step back.

Hartley succeeds fan-favourite Michael Muhney in the role. Muhney took to Twitter yesterday morning to wish Hartley the best:

Muhney took over for the role of Adam Newman in 2009, following Chris Engen’s 2008-2009 stint came to an end.

— Per Soap Opera Uncensored, it looks like Jill Farren Phelps is sticking around The Young and the Restless as executive producer. Check out the latest issue of the soap e-zine here.

— Look for Y&R’s Chelsea leave Genoa City for a few weeks as Melissa Claire Egan took some time off for her wedding.

— Canadian General Hospital fans: Don’t expect the American time slot changes to affect your viewing. The eight markets switching GH times aren’t the ones that are simulcast by City, so look for GH to continue to air at 2 p.m. ET and 1 p.m. PT on City. Canadian fans can also watch online at citytv.com.

The U.S. markets that are switching GH time slots are the following – returning to 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT/CT – New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Chicago, IL, Philadelphia, PA, San Francisco, CA, Houston, TX, Raleigh/Durham, NC and San Antonio, TX. Look for the change to take effect on Monday, September 8.

Rants & Raves – The Young and the Restless is getting good!

It was nice to see things get juicy on The Young and the Restless on the Monday, August 18 Canadian episode (aired Tuesday on CBS in the U.S.).

Getting Jennifer Gareis (Donna, The Bold and the Beautiful) to reprise her role as Sharon’s former BFF, Grace Turner, was a genius move. Kudos to Y&R and Gareis for keeping the return engagement a secret. “I didn’t say anything to anyone because they asked me not to,” she revealed to Soap Opera Digest.

In the episode, Nick (Joshua Morrow) called his former one-night stand (okay, make that multiple-night stand) to return to Genoa City on the Newman jet because he had some questions about the night that Cassie was born. Grace revealed that the nurse present during Sharon’s (Sharon Case) delivery was named Helen – the same name as Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) “mother.” Let’s hope that Mariah and Cassie are not twins (Grimes was told this wouldn’t be the twist when she returned to the soap). Having them both be twins would make no sense due to Summer’s (Hunter King) age – she was conceived following and because of Cassie’s death and there’s no way that Mariah is 36! Let’s hope the twin is a fake out, especially since a similar storyline was done on As the World Turns with Lily and Rose (and of course with Another World’s Vicky and Marley). The Cassie/Mariah twin thing would also devalue Nick’s affair with Phyllis (previously Michele Stafford, now Gina Tognoni), which happened because of Cassie’s death.

Speaking of Mariah, loved her fight with Sharon after she was caught in lingerie. “You don’t deserve him!” yelled Mariah while Sharon fought back with “YOU look HIS daughter!”

Then there was the Michael/Lauren twist! After days of trying to get some, Lauren (Tracey E. Bregman) and Michael (Christian LeBlanc) finally got some alone time, but Michael couldn’t “rise” to the occasion. Could it be an erectile dysfunction storyline? Or something much more alarming, like prostate cancer? Either way, it’s about time that The Young and the Restless – or any soap for that matter – told a socially conscious storyline, especially one that affects men.

Meanwhile, the Lily (Christel Khalil) vs. Hilary (Mishael Morgan) rivalry continues to be fun to watch. Now, if only we could forget about the miscast Billy and all-things Dylan… But this is a great start. I’m also sure that a lot of fans loved the theme played over the drama during the final act. Huge improvement Y&R!

Was thinking the same thing, re Michael and Lauren, i.e. that a Soap is finally tackling the issue of erectile dysfunction. Never thought though about the possibility of prostrate cancer.

I believe they are going down the Cassie-Mariah Twin route. Too bad! It’s been done too often Y&R! Time also to end Ian’s role. Great actor, but annoying storyline/character that has run its course.

Can’t believe that there will be another three months of waiting for Adam’s replacement. That’s three more months at staring at hands only, folks. Getting a bit stupid and boring there. Funny, how he looks younger and will be a blonde. I guess the plastic surgeon really changed his looks, that’s where they must be going. So, Chelsea and others won’t recognize him.

Didn’t like how Austin got away with everything. You could never shoot the chief of police and get off so easy, and also have everybody, (including Victor Newman) in your corner.

Neil really was already “blind”, don’t you think? :-)
