Moments before heading to last Sunday’s Daytime Emmy Awards, Alison Sweeney revealed that she’s officially returning for Days of our Lives’ 50th anniversary celebration. On Instagram, the actress posted a photo of a script with the caption “Wow — it’s finally real. Days is turning 50 and I can’t wait to play a part in honoring such an important milestone.”

— DAYS has put Judi Evans (Adrienne) and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) back on contract.

Alexander Bruszt beat out other Australian hopefuls in DAYS’ “Search for a Star” competition. The 32-year-old actor previously starred on Aussie hit soap Home and Away.

— Transgender diversity author and speaker Scott Turner Schofield has been cast as Nick on The Bold and the Beautiful.

— B&B is looking to recast the role of Thomas Forrester, Ridge and Taylor’s son. The character, who is now living in Paris, was previously played by Adam Gregory (from 2010-2014) and Drew Tyler Bell (2004-2010).

— In addition to returning full time to B&B as Steffy, look for Jacqueline MacInnes Wood to star in a new Hulu original series, South Beach this July. The series also starts former All My Children and Guiding Light alum Jordia Vilasuso and is is about two of Miami’s most powerful record labels. No word yet on if and when the series will stream or air in Canada (Deadbeat, another Hulu original series, currently streams on Bell Media’s CraveTV).

The Young and the Restless has cast Sofia Pernas as a mysterious character named Marisa.

— Y&R’s Mishael Morgan (Hilary) is expecting her first child this August. A show rep told Soaps In Depth that the Canadian actresses’ pregnancy will not be written into the soap.

General Hospital’s Frank Valentini announced this past week on Twitter that Genie Francis would be returning to the show as Laura! In a statement released by ABC following the tweet, Valentini said that “Genie is a part of our GH family and the door has always been open for her return when the timing and story are right. Lucky for us, the stars have aligned and we are thrilled to welcome Genie back home.”

 

The actress previously returned in 2013 for the soap’s 50th anniversary. Francis and co-star Anthony Geary (Luke) appeared on stage together at last Sunday’s Daytime Emmys broadcast, where many expected such an announcement would take place.

— GH welcomed back Kelly Thiebaud as Britt for some Nurses Ball snark with Brad (Perry Chen) this past week. The actress spoke to Soaps In Depth about her visit: “It was good being back. It was just a case of getting used to that [taping] speed again. I didn’t have a lot of time to work on the material, so it was [a little] like the first time I set foot in there just trying to fin my feet again.” During her visit back, Britt also reunited with her mother (Kathleen Gati’s Liesl Obrecht) and convinced Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel) to attend the Nurses Ball. MEET A SOAP STAR: CHRISTIAN LEBLANC RETURNING TO CANADA

The Young and the Restless fans in the Toronto area can meet Christian LeBlanc (Michael) next weekend as the actor will make three appearances in Ontario.

LeBlanc will be at the Georgetown Marketplace in Georgetown on Saturday, May 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. He’ll then head to the OLG Slots at Ajax Downs in Ajax from 3 p.m. to  5 p.m.

On Sunday, May 10 (Mother’s Day), the actor will head over to the OLG Slots at Woodbine in Toronto from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
