DirecTV’s Billy & Billie will finally have its Canadian premiere tonight (Wednesday, Dec. 2) on Super Channel at 7:30 p.m. ET (SC2).
The twisted romantic comedy stars Adam Brody (The O.C.) and Lisa Joyce (Boardwalk Empire) as two New York City twenty somethings who fall in love — but here’s the twist: they are step siblings.
The series follows Billy and Billie (what a coincidence) as they realize they are falling in love with each other, their decision to date each other exclusively and then the fallout they face from friends, coworkers and family once their taboo relationship is out in the open.
The series is created and written by acclaimed screenwriter and playwright Neil LaBute (The Shape of Things, In the Company of Men). The first season, which consist of ten half-hour episodes, premiered on DirecTV’s Audience network earlier this year. All ten episodes will be made available on demand beginning Thursday (Dec. 3) but will continue to air on Super Channel each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
It’s eight years after The O.C. ended and we’ve got Brody playing a character who is quite confident when compared to Seth Cohen, so much so that he’s gone ahead and fallen for his stepsister — someone who he couldn’t even tolerate while growing up. Each episode is self-contained and encapsulates the anxieties of a new relationship, one that started from sex but that has grown into so much more (so quickly even). It’s the perfect show to binge watch (2-3 episodes at a time), but there will come an episode with an actual cliffhanger that will make you sprint to the next episode.
It’s a sure bet if you like cable comedies. No word yet on a second season but that shouldn’t dissuade you from checking it out. It’s definitely worth your time. The first season is very well crafted and an interesting take on a subject matter than could have easily gone camp.
