The new series will be executive produced by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) who got his writing career on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.
It was announced in November that the brand new series will premiere in early 2017 on CBS All Access (although the premiere will be broadcast on CBS). No word yet which Canadian broadcaster or streaming service will acquire the series.
The Star Trek franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The new film Star Trek: Beyond will premiere in theatres on July 22.
