The 2016 iHeartRadio Canada Much Music Video awards (yes, that’s what it’s called now) took place last night (June 19) in Toronto — going up against “The Battle of the Bastards” on Game of Thrones and the NBA finals.

Many artists, including Joe Jonas, Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey and Tegan & Sara took some time during the ceremony and in the press room to reflect upon the tragic shooting in Orlando last week and voiced their support for the LGBT community.

Drake was a big winner at last night’s iHeartRadio Canada Much Music Video Awards, receiving five wins including Video of the Year and Best Hip Hop Video, but was a no-show. (Instead, he posted a bunch of photos of himself on Instagram.)

Out of all the performances, Brampton’s Alessia Cara’s “Wild Things” was by far my favourite. It was also neat seeing her watch her performance during a rebroadcast in the press room. The Best New Canadian Artist winner will be touring with Coldplay this summer. She was actually offered a scholarship to Ryerson’s Radio and Television Arts program but chose the tour instead.

Tyler Posey recalled his love of Harvey’s hamburgers. The Teen Wolf star explained that he used to enjoy going to the Canadian restaurant chain back when he was working here on Doc (Yes, the Billy Ray Cyrus series) when he was a kid.

By far the most entertaining press room moment was with Shemar Moore who confessed that he was a bit drunk as he multitasked between presenting on stage and watching the NBA finals backstage. Moore, who left Criminal Minds, last season teased that he could return someday. “The elevator doors just closed,” and that his character wasn’t killed off. No word yet if he’d return to The Young and the Restless as the Q&A came to a halt when it was time for The Flash star Robbie Amell to take the microphone. Their meeting did kick off their bromance which we hope will flourish. Perhaps Greg Berlanti can cast him?

Oh and Moore did let this one slip about host Gigi Hadid: “She could use a hamburger, but other than that, she’s stunning.

As for the evening’s supermodel host, she did come up to the press room for a couple of minutes and said she’d return as host again as it was “better than I could have hoped for.”
