Queen of the South will finally have its Canadian debut this evening (August 16) when it premieres on Bravo.

The USA Network series premiered in the U.S. earlier this summer and is already eight episodes into its 13-episode first season. Queen of the South inherits Animal Kingdom slot on Bravo’s impressive summer lineup which also includes Suits and Pretty Little Liars.

Based on the international best seller “La Reina Del Sur” by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Queen of the South tells the story of Teresa Mendoza (City of God, I Am Legend and Elysium’s Alice Braga), a woman who is forced to seek refuge in America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is murdered in Mexico. Teresa must team up with someone from her past in order to bring down the drug trafficking ring that has her out on the run.

The premiere introduces us to Teresa as she’s one of the world’s wealthiest women – but the season revolves around how she got to there. Telemundo adapted the novel as a hit telenovela in 2011 where it ran for 62 episodes.

Joining Braga in the cast are Veronica Falcòn (Besos de Azúcar) as Camila Vargas, Justina Machado (Six Feet Under) as the hilarious Brenda Parra, Peter Gadiot (Tut) as James Valdez, Hemky Madera (Weeds) as Pote Galvez and Gerardo Taracena (Apocalypto) as Cesar Guemes. Guest stars include Joaquim de Almedia (Our Brand Is Crisis), Jon Ecker (Narcos), James Martinez (Breaking Bad) and Mark Conseulos (All My Children).

Queen of the South premieres Tuesday, August 16 at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo in Canada.
