Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched all four episodes of Netflix’s Gilmore Girls revival.

A lot happened during Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. Sure there was stuff that was dragged out way too long like the musical numbers (except for the last one) and Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) delivering the Gazette. But there was way more that was great. This revival was exactly what many of us needed after the garbage year that was 2016. There’s just something about those La-La-La’s and Grant-Lee Phillips.

What upset me: I was never a fan of Logan (Matt Czuchry) and I hated that Rory was his mistress. The Life and Death Brigade sequence was beautifully shot. She also slept with a Wookie. A wookie. She left her mother in a hotel room and slept with a source. Also, no one actually interviews for Conde Naste. It would have been with GQ. Just say GQ. I did not care for Jack Smith (Ray Wise), please stay away from Emily (Kelly Bishop). It’s too soon, buddy.

We didn’t get much of Lane (Keiko Agena) or Mrs. Kim (Emily Kuroda) but we finally got to meet Mr. Kim! What the hell was Chad Michael Murray (Tristan) doing instead of filming a cameo? Of course Dean (Jared Padelecki) is re-married and has a bunch of kids (including one more on the way). I was even able to tolerate Kirk (Sean Gunn).

Things that made me happy: Luke (Scott Paterson) and Lorelei end up getting married. Paris (Liza Weil) was awesome. Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) wasn’t over Rory. I’m glad we got Sookie (Melissa McCarthy) even if it was just for a scene. I’m glad we learned more about Michel (Yanic Truesdale). I’m glad he pushed Lorelai to further develop the Dragon Fly. I loved Rory’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer reference when she met with Christopher (David Sutcliffe). [Gilmore Girls took over the Tuesday night timeslot following Buffy’s move to UPN]

My favourite scene was Lorelei’s phone call to Emily. Kelly Bishop was the MVP from the moment Emily dragged a drunken Lorelai to her bullshit takedown of the DAR to working at that whale place in Nantucket.

I love that they played Tom Waits when they flashed back to Richard’s (Edward Hermann) funeral. I got chills when Rory saw Richard in his study. One of the reasons why I was hooked on Gilmore Girls during its original run on The WB/The CW was because of Rory’s two worlds. She had her world with her mother in Stars Hollow and then she had a world with her grandparents. I could relate to that. Having lost a grandparent this year, I took comfort when Rory worked on her book in Richard’s study. I wish we got to see more of how Rory coped with losing a grandparent she was so close to.

As for those final four words. I called it. I actually called it over ten years ago when Amy Sherman-Palladino revealed how she would have ended things. I knew it was coming but I still gasped. A lot of people did. Like Lorelai, we all wanted more for Rory.
