Ron Carlivati was appointed as the new head writer of Days of our Lives on January 23 and now his material is finally set to hit the screen! In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, the scribe spoke to the magazine about his initial plans for the NBC/Global soap, which was renewed for its 52nd season.

Some highlights:

• “Having grown up on soaps, I often gravitated to the characters that had been on for a long time, so what’s great about DAYS is there’s a deep bench of characters like that with Steve, Kayla, Hope, John, Marlena and the DiMeras and Stefano, who sadly passed away, but you still have Andre and his family, and you have Victor Kiriakis. Lucas is getting a big story and I’m looking forward to it.”

• There will be some romance coming up as the first scene on Wednesday as John looking for Marlena. Patch & Kayla will have a romantic evening coming up.

• Look for the returns of Chandler Massey, Eileen Davidson and Alison Sweeney. “…It seemed like the death of Will Horton was not a popular decision and was viewed as a mistake. I wanted to take a look at that and see if there was any way to repair some of that damage. So without saying too much about where it’s going, that’s obviously a major reason why Alison Sweeney is coming back. I was thrilled to be able to write for her.”

• Deimos’ murder was already written but Carlivati expanded on the story by having it be a different killer.

• Look for the reunion of Chad and Abigail. “One of the stories I focused on right away was how we were going to move Chad and Abigail back together.”

• The first character created by Ron will hit the screen in 2018.

The actor originally played the role of Stone Cates from 1993 to 1995, when his character died tragically of an AIDS-related illness. Stone “appeared” to Robin back in September 2010 when she was trapped in a well.

General Hospital definitely needs to keep Serena Baldwin and her portrayer Carly Shroeder. The family dynamic in the scenes this past week, when Scotty (Kin Shriner), Lucy (Lynn Herring) and Serena mourned Lee Baldwin (the late Peter Hansen) is the reason soap fans continue to tune in each day.

Also this scene as well with Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel) and Ava (Maura West). GH has got the cast… Such a shame it can put together long-term storylines in place of quick “event” stories.
