CHCH Picks Up Empire in Canada

CHCH is now the Canadian broadcaster of Empire, which will make it available to Canadians who don’t have access to Fox. The independent station, based out of Hamilton, Ontario, is available through Cogeco, Rogers, Shaw and Bell.

Empire previously aired on Rogers’ Omni Television and City, but was dropped due to low ratings and moved to shomi, Rogers and Shaw’s streaming service, where it was among its most popular shows. Following shomi’s shutdown last fall, no other Canadian broadcaster was lined up to air the remaining episodes of Empire’s third season.

Empire’s fourth season will see Empire Entertainment embarking on a celebration of its 20th anniversary as Lucious (Terrence Howard) makes his first public appearance since the explosion in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) will revisit the most challenging time of her life — her 17 years in prison — through a series of flashbacks. The fourth season will have Lucious, Cookie, and their three sons (Jussie Smollett’s Jamal, Bryshere Y. Gray’s Hakeem and Trai Byers’ Andre) taking a hard look at their choices, both past and present, in order to secure their legacy and save their ‘empire.’

Also returning this season are cast members Grace Byers (Anika), Gabourey Sidibe (Becky), Serayah (Tiana), Ta’Rhonda Jones (Porsha), Alvin ‘Xzibit’ Joiner (Shine), Andre Royo (Thirsty), Terrell Carter (Warren) and Rumer Willis (Tory). Returning guest stars include Demi Moore (as Lucious’ nurse, Claudia), Phylicia Rashad (Diana) and Taye Diggs (Angelo).

Empire’s fourth season premieres Wednesday, September 27, at 8 p.m. ET on CHCH and Fox.
