Could Commissioner Jordan Ashford be leaving Port Charles? Canadian actress Vinessa Antoine has booked the lead role on CBC’s upcoming legal drama Diggstown. The Toronto-born actress will make Canadian television history as the first black female lead on a primetime series.

Antoine will play the title role of Marcie Diggs, a star corporate lawyer who reconsiders her priorities after her beloved aunt commits suicide following a malicious prosecution. Marcie joins a legal aid office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where she vows to never allow innocent lives to be destroyed by the justice system.

Set to premieres this winter on Canada’s public broadcaster, Diggstown will explore the issues of racism, poverty, and gender bias. While the first season will only consist of six episodes, Antoine offered to stay in the role of General Hospital‘s Jordan on recurring status, however, ABC decided that the actress would be off the canvas “too long.” No word yet if the role will be recast (as Jordan is currently engaged to Donnell Turner‘s Curtis).

This week on General Hospital: Michael (Chad Duel) is torn on Monday (July 16). Jordan (Vinessa Antoine) is sympathetic. Sonny (Maurice Benard) expresses his frustrations. Ava (Maura West) deflects. Josslyn (Eden McCoy) comes clean. Maxie (Kirsten Storms) senses that something is wrong on Tuesday (July 17). Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) puts two and two together. Liesl (Kathleen Gati) is overcome with emotion. Nina (Michelle Stafford) makes a promise. Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) presses Franco (Roger Howarth) to do the right thing.

On Wednesday (July 18), Curtis (Donnell Turner) offers Elizabeth an explanation. Valentin buys some time. Julian (William deVry) pays Sonny a surprise visit. Kim (Tamara Braun) pleads with Julian. Chase (Josh Swickard) reassures Nelle (Chloe Lanier). Sonny gets in over his head on Thursday (July 19). Carly (Laura Wright) faces the consequences of her actions. Nina dodges accusations. Elizabeth is proud of Kiki (Hayley Erin). Griffin (Matt Cohen) pushes back.

Liesl encounters an obstacle on Friday (July 20). Valentin is desperate. Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) is the bearer of bad news. Jason (Steve Burton) is anxious. Nelle looks to Chase for help.

Coming up in Port Charles during the week of July 23:

  • Kim helps Julian.
  • Drew (Billy Miller) runs into Margaux (Elizabeth Hendrickson).
  • Sam (Kelly Monaco) asks about Carly.
  • Sonny confronts Kevin (Jon Lindstrom).
