CBC Gem’s August streaming highlights include the six-part British miniseries The Little Drummer Girl starring Michael Shannon, Alexander Skarsgård and Florence Pugh, premiering on Friday, August 9.

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, there are some specials dropping on August 9: the 3-part doc Woodstock Diaries, Both Sides Now: Joni Mitchell Live at the Isle of Wight, Jimi: All Is By My Side, Pete Seeger: The Power of Song, Taking Woodstock, Janis: Little Girl Blue, and Woodstock: Three Days That Changed A Generation.

The second season of Ackley Bridge also premieres on August 9 — 12 new episodes about the school designed to unite the divided white and Asian communities of a Yorkshire town. The first season is also available. While My Mad Fat Diaries third season begins streaming on Friday, August 23.

Quebec’s answer to Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm is Les Beaux Malaises from Encore Télévision — also streaming on August 9. Australian series The Beautiful Lie premieres on Friday, August 16 and re-imagines Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina set in contemporary middle-class life while exploring the love lives of both “happy” and “unhappy” families. The 10th season of Portlandia premieres on August 23.

Canadian films hitting CBC Gem include David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars on August 9, Anton Cobijn’s Life, starring Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan about the unique friendship between Dennis Stock and James Dean, on August 23.

New episodes of Coronation Street are also added each weekday. CBC Gem is also the place to stream past and current seasons of other CBC favourites including Schitt’s Creek, Coroner, Northern Rescue, Diggstown, Kim’s Convenience, Baroness Von Sketch Show, Unspeakable, Murdoch Mysteries, Anne with an E, Heartland, The Kids In The Hall, and Being Erica.

CBC Gem is available for free as an app for iOS and Android devices and online at CBCGem.ca. It is also available on Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV. A premium subscription is also available for $4.99 a month for access to ad-free programming, and live streams to local CBC TV channels and CBC News Network.
