The second season of Ackley Bridge also premieres on August 9 — 12 new episodes about the school designed to unite the divided white and Asian communities of a Yorkshire town. The first season is also available. While My Mad Fat Diaries third season begins streaming on Friday, August 23.
Quebec’s answer to Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm is Les Beaux Malaises from Encore Télévision — also streaming on August 9. Australian series The Beautiful Lie premieres on Friday, August 16 and re-imagines Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina set in contemporary middle-class life while exploring the love lives of both “happy” and “unhappy” families. The 10th season of Portlandia premieres on August 23.
Canadian films hitting CBC Gem include David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars on August 9, Anton Cobijn’s Life, starring Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan about the unique friendship between Dennis Stock and James Dean, on August 23.
New episodes of Coronation Street are also added each weekday.
