The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards is set to air live on September 22, live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony, which honours the best in primetime television programming from June 1, 2018, until May 31, 2019, will be broadcast in Canada on CTV and by Fox in the U.S. Canadians will be able to watch live (coast to coast) on CTV and CTV.ca from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET. 

HBO’s Game of Thrones has earned a record-breaking 32 nominations including Outstanding Drama Series where it is favoured to win against Better Call SaulBodyguardKilling EveOzarkPoseSuccession, and This Is Us.

CBC series Schitt’s Creek finally received recognition by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences as the comedy (which airs on Pop TV in the U.S.) was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, where it will face off against BarryFleabagThe Good PlaceThe Marvelous Mrs. MaiselRussian Doll, and Veep. 

Canadians actors nominated this year include Schitt’s Creek’s Catherine O’Hara and Eugene LevyKilling Eve’s Sandra Oh is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama as well as Outstanding Guest Actress for her SNL hosting gig —  which falls under the Creative Arts ceremony. Barry’s Sarah Goldberg is nominated for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series — this is the Vancouver-born actress’ first Emmy nomination.
