ABC has officially announced that General Hospital will shift to airing four original episodes a week and then will air encore episodes on Fridays. The first installment of “Flashback Fridays” will take place this Friday, April 3.

Production of the ABC soap shut down on Friday, March 13, due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the other three American soap operas also shutting down production.

GH’s first “encore” episode will be its 56th-anniversary episode, which aired last April, and was centered around the reading of Gail Baldwin’s will. The episode will be introduced by Laura Wright (Carly).

General Hospital’s Flashback Fridays encore series is expected to continue through May 22.

Fans are hoping that ABC selects actual “classic” episodes of series, a move that is CBS is expected to announce for The Young and the Restless.

UK broadcasters announced shortened schedules for their shows last week, with CBC also cutting down the number of episodes of Coronation Street. Citytv airs General Hospital in Canada and is also expected to carry the encore episodes on Fridays.
