As of March 18, production has been halted on all four American soap operas due to the coronavirus crisis.

General Hospital was the first soap to shut down production on Friday (March 13) and should have enough episodes ready to air through the end of April. While seven weeks worth of episodes may have been filmed, we’re unsure how many of those have been edited. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and Citytv in Canada (and also streams on the Citytv website, on demand service and streaming platform).

The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful officially shut down for production on Monday (March 16). The two CBS soaps usually take four to six weeks ahead and should have enough episodes to air through early May. Y&R airs on CBS and Global in Canada (also available on demand and the Global TV website, and streaming service). B&B airs on CBS and CTV Two in Canada, with episodes also available on CTV.ca, on demand, and the CTV app on the Crave streaming service.

Meanwhile, Days of our Lives actually films about eight months ahead of schedule and will have enough episodes ready to air through early November. The series was already scheduled to be on filming hiatus this week and this hiatus has been extended indefinitely. DAYS airs on NBC and Global in Canada, with episodes also available on demand and through the Global TV website and streaming platform.

As of now, all episodes will continue to air five days a week.

As for the UK soaps: BBC has suspended production of EastEnders and will only air episodes twice a week going forward (instead of four). The next batch of new episodes will air on Monday (March 30) and Tuesday (March 31). EastEnders streams following its UK premiere on BritBox in the U.S. Episodes of EastEnders are about six months behind in Canada on VisionTV.

Update (March 22): ITV has shut down the production of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale. There will only be three episodes a week (Monday, Wednesday & Friday) beginning March 30. Coronation Street streams on BritBox in the U.S. It is expected that CBC will adjust their Corrie schedule in April as Canadians are a week or so behind.

ITV has also announced that Emmerdale’s weekly episodes have been reduced to five (Coronation Street and Emmerdale both aired six new episodes a week). Emmerdale is available to stream in Canada and the U.S. on BritBox.
