Peacock and Channel 4’s new series We Are Lady Parts premieres in Canada on Showcase this Wednesday, June 9 at 9 p.m. ET with back-to-back episodes.
The series follows a Muslim female punk band called Lady Parts as they set out on a mission to find a lead guitarist and their first proper gig. We Are Lady Parts is written, created and directed by Nida Manzoor, (Doctor Who, Enterprice) as she draws from her own inspiration and takes inspiration from the rich and diverse cultural collectives and artists in London.
Anjana Vasan stars as Amina, a geeky microbiology PhD student, who is on the lookout for love and is recruited to be Lady Parts’ unlikely lead guitarist. Sarah Kameela Impey portrays the band’s fierce and enigmatic frontwoman, Saira. Juliette Motamed’s Ayesha is their taxi-driving drummer. Faith Omole is the cartoon-drawing bassist and backing vocalist, Bisma. Momtaz is played by Lucie Shorthouse and is the band’s wheeler-dealer manager.
Rounding out the cast are Aiysha Hart as Amina’s strait-laced uni friend, Noor, and Zaqi Ismail as Ahsan – Ayeesha’s brother and Amina’s love interest.
The series will contain original punk songs and surprising cover tracks that were written and dapted by Nina Manzoor along with Shez Manzoor, Sanya Manzoor, and Benni Fregin. Fans can click here to download and stream We Are Lady Parts’ original soundtrack.
We Are Lady Parts premiered its 6-episode first season on May 20 in the UK on Channel 4 and then premiered on June 3 in the U.S. on Peacock. In Canada, We Are Lady Parts airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Showcase. Episodes will also steam on the Global app.
