Update: The Many Saints of Newark will premiere on Crave on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022.

The Many Saints of Newark, the much-anticipated feature film prequel to HBO’s The Sopranos will hit theatres across North America on October 1, 2021.

While viewers in the U.S. will be able to stream David Chase’s film on HBO Max the same day it is released in the theatres, Canadians will only be able to watch the film at the movie theatre as the film is not part of Canadian streaming platform Crave’s deal with HBO Max.

In The Many Saints of Newark, a young Anthony Soprano (played by Michael Gandolfini) is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city – and under the influence of the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola).

The film also stars Leslie Odom Jr. as Harold McBrayer, Jon Bernthal as Giovanni “Jonny Boy” Soprano, Corey Stoll as Corrado “Junior” Soprano Jr., Ray Liotta as Aldo “Hollywood Dick” Moltisanti and Sal “Sally” Moltisanti, Vera Farmiga as Livia Soprano, Billy Magnussen as Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri, Michela De Rossi as Giuseppina Bruno, John Magaro as Silvio Dante, Samson Moekiola as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero, Alexandra Intrator as Janice Soprano, Joey Diaz as Lino “Buddha” Bonpensiero, and Nick Vallegona as Jerry “Fat Jerry” Anastasia.

Michael Imperioli reprises his role as Christopher Moltisanti, who narrates the film while archived audio of James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano) is also featured.
