The adaptation of Sally Rooney (Normal People) 2017 novel Conversation with Friends will premiere on Monday, May 16, 2022, in Canada on Prime Video.
The 12-episode limited series reunites the creative team behind the 2020’s Normal People, including director Lenny Abrahamson and co-writer Alice Birch. Conversations with Friends stars Alison Oliver as Frances, Sasha Lane (Loki) as Bobbi Connolly, Joe Alwyn (Mary Queen of Scots)as Nick Conway, and Jemima Kirke (Girls) as Melissa Conway.
Conversations with Friends follows 21-year-old college student Frances as she navigates a series of relationships that force her to confront her own vulnerabilities for the first time. Frances is observant, cerebral, and sharp while her ex-girlfriend, and now best friend, Bobbi is self-assured, outspoken, and compelling. Although they broke up three years ago, Frances and Bobbi remain inseparable and perform spoken word poetry together in Dublin – where they meet Melissa, an older writer, who is fascinated by the pair. Frances and Bobbi start spending time with Melissa and her actor husband Nick. While Melissa and Bobbi flirt with each other openly, it’s Frances and Nick who embark on an intense secret affair.
The series, which began principal photography in North Ireland back in April 2021, premiered in the U.K. and the U.S. on BBC Three and Hulu, and will also air on RTÉ One in Ireland and Northern Ireland on May 18.
Conversations with Friends streams on Prime Video in Canada beginning May 16.
