Canadians will be able to watch the Coronation Concert following BBC One’s live broadcast in the U.K. on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
Performances on the grounds of Windsor Castle include Take That, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, Freya Ridings, Alexis French, and Katy Perry. The concert will feature a broad mix of music spanning from pop to classical, along with spoken word and dance performances reflecting the arts and culture from around the U.K. and the Commonwealth.
The concert celebrates a new chapter in Britain’s history, with themes of love, respect, and optimism, celebrating the four nations, their communities, and the Commonwealth – all in front of Their Majesties the King and the Queen in front of 20,000 members of the public and invited guests.
The artists performing will be backed by world-class musicians, including a 70-piece orchestra and house band comprising the Massed Bands of the Household Division and the Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra. An exclusive appearance from the Coronation Choir will also be featured, which is a diverse group created from the U.K.’s keenest community choirs and amateur singers. A virtual choir, made up of singers from across the Commonwealth, will also perform.
A centrepiece of the Coronation Concert, “Lighting Up the Nation,” will see the U.K. join together in celebration as iconic locations are lit up, using projections, lasers, drone displays, and illuminations.
