Big Brother Canada Exit Interview: Matthew Wong

matthew wong big brother canada exit interview season 12

Matthew Wong, the 27-year-old Kinesiologist from Surrey, B.C., was the latest houseguest to be evicted on Big Brother Canada. The TV Watercooler caught up with Matthew following his eviction to discuss his thoughts on Spicy Vee’s goodbye message, if his showmance with Lexus put a target on his back, and who he thinks will turn one another in the “Girls + Anthony” alliance.

What went through your mind when you watched Victoria’s goodbye message? Specifically, about how the girls, including Lexus, were working with Anthony as well.

At first, it caught me off guard when I heard Anthony’s name in there. I knew the girls had some sort of alliance. Obviously, in the beginning, I may have felt a way just because Anthony or Lexus could have let me know, so I could have maybe flipped Bayleigh.

However, I understand for the weeks going forward, there was a slim chance that I’d stay and that it would really ruin their game. And to be honest, I probably wouldn’t want that for them. I really want them to pull it out.

I know everyone’s got to play the game from different angles, but I truly believe that Anthony and Lexus would have chosen me over anyone in that alliance – possibly even the house.

Do you think there could have been a scenario where you, Anthony and the girls built a strong alliance and why don’t you think the rest of them tried to do that?

Yeah, for sure. But we kind of had that opportunity with ‘The Directors.’ It was just those same five, and then me and Goose (Elijah). But that dwindled after Goose’s H.O.H.

From a game standpoint, it was probably the best move for Kayla, Avery, and Victoria to get me out this week. Obviously, they have a good relationship with Bayleigh, who has a good relationship with Todd, and then they keep their five-person alliance strong, because, like I said, I really believe that Anthony and Lexus would have both chosen me over anyone in that alliance. And I think those three girls knew that, too. And that’s why they had to get me out.

Do you think your showmance with Lexus put a target on your back?

Probably, to be honest. But being in the Big Brother Canada house for 24 hours a day, for 40 days, it’s tough to be fake, or it’s tough not to do what you truly want to do.

I’m just open, upfront, and honest. I like to have a good time. I’m a very positive person. And so, I felt like just being with Lexus was where I enjoyed most of my time, and it probably did put a target on my back. At the day of the day, only one person can win this game. I guess I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to meet such a great person.

I like to have a good time. I’m a very positive person. And so, I felt like just being with Alexis is where I enjoyed most of my time and probably did put a target on my back. But at the end of the day, only one person can win this game. And I guess I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to meet such a great person.

How do you think your exit leaves her? Did you both discuss a bit how she’d navigate her gameplay going forward?

Yeah, we definitely talked about it because I knew it was going to be tough. She was very upset and angry with Kayla and Avery for putting me up, even though I know it was Avery’s H.O.H. Everyone, or at least assumed, that Kayla knew about it or pushed for it.

I’ve told Lexus that she has a great opportunity to win this game and that it would be best for her game not to go after the girls right away. Especially because the numbers are dwindling. They’ll need to slowly break down the other side, but also keep the relationships strong.

I think it’s important that they probably get Bayleigh out first, and then wait one more week until they [Tola, Anthony, and Lexus] make their move [for the rest of them]. Unless Tola wins [H.O.H.], then you know he has no problem getting blood on his hands. He’s always in the hot seat no matter what, so he’ll definitely go for it!

I feel that Lexus knows that she probably doesn’t want to win the next H.O.H. Tola has the opportunity to win it. Anthony hasn’t told me this, but I’m pretty sure he throws every competition, or at least most. He’s the social game master. I definitely think Tola is definitely someone to watch for, and [winning the next H.O.H.] should be a must for him.

Who do you think will turn on each other next in that alliance?

I don’t know if that alliance is as strong after this week, to be honest. I feel like Anthony and Lexus were truly loyal to me and I think the girls not keeping me really hurt them. They might have to play nice for a week or so, but I feel like both sides know that someone is going to be taking that swing sooner rather than later!

What was your favourite memory in the Big Brother Canada house?

I don’t know if I had one specific memory that stands out. I feel like just the opportunity to play the game, but also to meet great people [is the standout].

I feel like there are three people in that house that are going to be lifelong friends for me.

But the one memory that I’ll never forget is when Bayleigh hit that hole-in-one!
