Happy July! Here’s what’s new on streaming platforms in Canada this weekend.

  • ITV series Red Eye begins streaming in Canada via Paramount+ this Friday, July 5. Get ready for a white-knuckle ride on the red-eye flight from London to Beijing in the new, 6-episode thriller starring Richard Armitage (Fool Me Once)and Jing Lusi (Argylle).

Dr. Matthew Nolan (Armitage) is back in London after a close call in a car crash, only to be arrested for the murder of a woman in China. Despite his claims of innocence, Nolan is sent back to face charges, escorted by the no-nonsense DC Hana Li (Lusi). Li’s initial resentment towards Nolan and the case quickly turns into suspicion when a dangerous incident throws the flight into chaos.
  • Also premiering on July 5 on Paramount+ is the new comedy film Drugstore June starring Esther Povitsky (Alone Together) and Bobby Lee (And Just Like That).

When the local pharmacy gets raided, a homebody with a knack for sleuthing (and a recent heartbreak) decides to ditch therapy for detective work. Can she catch the culprit and finally become the adult she’s supposed to be?

  • For those with Mubi, check out This Closeness, which debuted at SXSW, starring Kit Zauhar (who also wrote and directed), Zane Pais, and Jessie Pinnick.

In This Closeness, a seemingly simple Airbnb stay becomes a complex dance of desire and manipulation when a couple encounters their socially awkward host. This character-driven drama delves into the complexities of human connection and the battle for personal space.
