Happy July! Here’s what’s new on streaming platforms in Canada this weekend.
- ITV series Red Eye begins streaming in Canada via Paramount+ this Friday, July 5. Get ready for a white-knuckle ride on the red-eye flight from London to Beijing in the new, 6-episode thriller starring Richard Armitage (Fool Me Once)and Jing Lusi (Argylle).
Dr. Matthew Nolan (Armitage) is back in London after a close call in a car crash, only to be arrested for the murder of a woman in China. Despite his claims of innocence, Nolan is sent back to face charges, escorted by the no-nonsense DC Hana Li (Lusi). Li’s initial resentment towards Nolan and the case quickly turns into suspicion when a dangerous incident throws the flight into chaos.
- Also premiering on July 5 on Paramount+ is the new comedy film Drugstore June starring Esther Povitsky (Alone Together) and Bobby Lee (And Just Like That).
When the local pharmacy gets raided, a homebody with a knack for sleuthing (and a recent heartbreak) decides to ditch therapy for detective work. Can she catch the culprit and finally become the adult she’s supposed to be?
- For those with Mubi, check out This Closeness, which debuted at SXSW, starring Kit Zauhar (who also wrote and directed), Zane Pais, and Jessie Pinnick.
In This Closeness, a seemingly simple Airbnb stay becomes a complex dance of desire and manipulation when a couple encounters their socially awkward host. This character-driven drama delves into the complexities of human connection and the battle for personal space.
- Rapper and self-taught chef Big Zuu takes famous faces on culinary tours of European cities, teaching them everything that they need to know about the place through a dozen dishes. Big Zuu’s 12 Dishes in 12 Hours is now streaming on CBC Gem. One of the celebs featured includes The Bear’s Will Poulter.
- Also streaming on CBC Gem is CBC Music Live at Massey Hall Presents: Celebrating Gordon Lightfoot, which was recorded this past spring from Massey Hall’s Allan Slaight Stage in Toronto. A memorable evening of music with Blue Rodeo and The Gordon Lightfoot Band as the house bands, welcome some of Canada’s brightest talent to join them on stage to celebrate the late Gordon Lightfoot’s work including Allison Russell, Aysanabee, Burton Cummings, Casroline Wiles and Bob Doidge, City and Colour, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, The Good Brothers, Julian Taylor, Kathleen Edwards, Meredith Moon, Murray McLaughlan, Serena Ryder, Sylvia Tyson, Tom Cochrane, Tom Wilson, and William Prince.

- The 10th season of The Amazing Race Canada premiered this past week. The new season features retired NHL player Brad Mays and his daughter Sam, TikToker John Ferguson and his partner Connor Carrol, as well as Big Brother Canada winner Kevin Martin and Farming For Love contestant Gurleen Mann who began dating following their appearance on the first season of The Traitors Canada.
A new episode of The Amazing Race Canada will air and stream on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV.
