what to stream january 2025

The New Year is here and here are the premieres/moments that I’m looking forward to streaming in January 2025.

The Returns of The Traitors UK and The Traitors USA

The Traitors UK and The Traitors USA are both back for their third seasons this month. The Claudia Winkleman-hosted UK edition premiered last week on the BBC and streams in Canada on Crave. There are already three episodes streaming for you to sink your teeth into with new episodes dropping each Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday through January 31.

The American version, hosted by Alan Cumming premieres this Thursday, Jan. 9 with three episodes on Peacock in the U.S. and Crave in Canada. New episodes will stream each Thursday with the finale and reunion set for March 6. This year’s reality stars include Bob The Drag Queen (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Britney Haynes (Big Brother), Carolyn Wiger (Survivor), Chrishell Stause (Selling Sunset), Danielle Reyes (Big Brother) and Tom Sandoval (Vanderpump Rules).

Saint-Pierre

After exposing corruption, a Newfoundland cop is exiled to French islands where he teams up with a headstrong deputy to solve baffling crimes beyond the idyllic locale’s facade.

Allan Hawco is back with a new detective series, Saint-Pierre, with Death in Paradise’s Josephine Jobert by his side. Check out The TV Watercooler’s exclusive interview with the pair here. The series premiered this past Monday and streams on CBC Gem.

Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Crossover

The highly anticipated crossover episodes of Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia airs this Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 8:30 p.m. on Global and ABC in Canada. Canadians can also stream the episode on Disney+ beginning Thursday, Jan. 9.

In “Volunteers,” Ava (Janelle James) announces the school district is sending a group of volunteers to help out at Abbott, however when they arrive, things don’t go as planned – which should surprise It’s Always Sunny viewers as the volunteers happen to be Paddy’s Pub owners Mac (Rob McElhenney), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Charlie (Charlie Day), financial supporter Frank (Danny DeVito) and waitress Dee (Kaitlin Olson)!

Could “the gang” be performing community service? The crossover was first teased back in the summer by Abbott star Quinta Brunson (Janine) at San Diego Comic Con. This will be part 1, look for the Abbott Elementary cast to appear on an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia when the FXX series returns for its 17th season later this year. Reportedly, their episode will show their side of their volunteer experience.

Canadians can stream all seasons of Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on Disney+.

The Pitt

ER’s Noah Wyle is back with The Pitt, a realistic examination of the challenge facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline workers in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh. Each episode will follow an hour of Dr. Robby’s (Wyle) 15-hour shift.

The Pitt premieres this Thursday, Jan. 9 on Crave in Canada with two episodes – it streams on HBO Max in the U.S.

Severance Season 2

The second season of Severance premieres on Friday. Jan. 17 on AppleTV+ and new episodes will drop weekly through March 21.

Adam Scott’s Mark Scout leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself. In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.

Star Trek: Section 31

Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou (Star Trek: Discovery) in Paramount+’s new film Star Trek: Section 31, who joins a secret division of Starfleet and is tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, as well as the sins of her past.

The film also stars Omari Hardwick (Power), Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso, Detroiters), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim, EastEnders), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia), Joe Pingue (The Expanse), and Miku Martineau (Kate). The project was directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi (Star Trek: Discovery, The Man Who Fell to Earth) and was written by Craig Sweeny, Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt.

Star Trek: Section 31 was filmed in Toronto last year and will stream on Paramount+ beginning Friday, Jan. 24.

Nightbitch

Amy Adams stars as a woman who pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon her new domesticity takes a surreal turn.

Nightbitch, which premiered at TIFF earlier this year, will debut on Disney+ on Friday, Jan. 24.

Paradise

Starring James Marsden, Sterling K. Brown, and Julianne Nicholson, Paradise is set in a serene community inhabited by some of the world’s most prominent individuals but this tranquility explores when a shocking murder occurs and a high-stakes investigation unfolds.

The new series, Paradise, will stream on Disney+ in Canada and will debut with three episodes on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

A new Spidey series follows a young Peter Parker on his way to becoming the hero we all know and love, but with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the hero’s comic book roots.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday, Jan. 29 with two episodes and will feature the voices of Hudson Thames, Colman Domingo, Kari Wahlgreen, Hugh Dancy, Charlie Cox, Paul F. Thompkins, Cathy Ang, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
