The TV Watercooler had the immense privilege of speaking with a true literary giant, a visionary whose words have shaped generations and whose influence continues to resonate across the globe: the recipient of this year’s ICON Award at The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment Canada, Margaret Atwood.

Fresh off the recent conclusion of The Handmaid’s Tale television series, we’ll delve into her thoughts on character fates, her anticipation for the upcoming The Testaments adaptation, and what it was like to witness the world of Gilead come to life in communities across Ontario.

Oh, and warning – spoilers from the end of The Handmaid’s Tale are below.

How did you feel about Nick’s death in The Handmaid’s Tale television series?

Well, you know… [Laughs] They had to polish him off! I guess he didn’t want to be in the next installment.

Now that you’ve had the experience of working on a television adaptation, what would you like to do differently this time around when working on The Testaments series?

I haven’t seen the script yet, so I can’t tell you! They haven’t told me yet what my cameo is going to be.

You got to be on set of The Handmaid’s Tale when it filmed across different communities throughout Ontario, like Cambridge and Fort Erie. What was it like seeing the excitement of the locals?

It was lovely! It was a good experience for them. We even filmed scenes in Toronto, and everybody had a good time. It was a great cast and crew to work with!
