As the soap world continues to reel from the loss of eight-time Daytime Emmy winner Anthony Geary, General Hospital is ensuring fans get a proper chance to say goodbye to a legend.
On January 1, ABC will re-air the emotional July 27, 2015, episode — the hour that saw Luke Spencer leave Port Charles behind after nearly 40 years of adventure. Even those who haven’t tuned in for years know the cultural impact of “Luke & Laura,” and this encore honours that massive legacy alongside Genie Francis.
Geary passed away on December 14.
While Geary briefly stepped out of retirement for a 2017 cameo to bid farewell to Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine; who eventually returned), this 2015 exit remains his definitive final bow. Though the character of Luke was killed off-screen in a 2022 cable car accident, this New Year’s Day broadcast lets us remember the icon as he was: front and centre.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and Citytv in Canada. Canadian viewers can catch up on demand and stream Citytv+. For more soap news and previews, make sure to keep it tuned in to The TV Watercooler.
