On Tuesday, June 23, The TV Watercooler had the distinct privilege of attending a special, intimate event with the queen of daytime herself, Susan Lucci. Hosted at the luxurious Bosk inside Toronto’s Shangri-La Hotel, the early evening affair felt less like a standard press event and more like a fabulous Pine Valley reunion.

Attendees were encouraged to bring a plus-one they originally watched All My Children with – so naturally, I brought my aunt, who is a big daytime and primetime soap fan! After all, as any soap fan knows, the drama is always better when shared with family. Guests certainly lived up to Erica Kane’s iconic philosophy: “The key to life is resilience… and a fabulous outfit.”

Catch Up with a Legend

During the event, “La Lucci” sat down to share some memories and answer burning questions from adoring fans. Here are a few highlights from the conversation:

·      On sharing a wardrobe with Erica: When asked if Erica’s traits rubbed off on her, Lucci noted that one of the most frequently asked questions is about their shared taste in clothing. “We had the same taste in clothes,” she laughed, referring to the Dolce & Gabbana she was wearing. “The only thing is, I wear this, I wear this to a party, and she wore this around the house.”

·      On stepping back onto the set: If given the chance to go back to the All My Children set for just one day, her first order of business would be simple: “Probably kiss somebody!”

·      On a potential revival: The possibility of returning to Pine Valley might not just be a dream! Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos (who played Haley and Mateo and currently host Live with Kelly & Mark) are having discussions with Lifetime to produce two All My Children movies for the American cable network.

·      On her favourite rival: When asked who her favourite of Erica’s rivals was, Lucci shared it would have to be Brooke English (Julia Barr).
