Alicia Silverstone’s new TV series Irish Blood premieres this Monday, August 11 on Acorn TV with two episodes. The six-part murder mystery will conclude its run on September 8.
Silverstone stars as Fiona, whose path in life is earmarked by her father, Declan (Jason O’Mara; The Man in High Castle), who seemingly abandoned her and her mother (played by Canadian Wendy Crewson) on her tenth birthday. After years of channeling anger toward him, to the benefit of her litigious clients, a message from her father sends her to Ireland. There she learns key truths about her father as well as a family that doesn’t know she exists, and, moreover, that the story of abandonment that has shaped her entire life – was a lie. A lie intended to protect her and her mother from her father’s shady business dealings. Fiona resolves to uncover the full truth about her father and reconnect with the parent she only thought she knew.
The Canadian production company Shaftesbury produced the series, filming on location in Dublin, County Wicklow (in the Republic of Ireland), as well as the Causeway Coast (in Northern Ireland).
Christina Jennings, who serves as an executive producer of the series alongside Silverstone, was honoured earlier this year at The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment Canada award ceremony in Toronto, teasing Irish Blood to The TV Watercooler, calling it a “fresh take” on a “glorious” story of mystery and discovery.
Irish Blood streams Mondays on Acorn TV in Canada, the U.S., and the U.K.
