Soap News: Casting Scorecard – Vets hopping soaps plus Nikki Newman is staying on Y&R

There seem to be quite a lot of veteran soap stars running around soap world, so here is a quick list to keep you up to speed.

Stuart Damon (ex-Alan, General Hospital) will be joining Lynn Herring (ex-Lucy, GH/Port Charles) on As The World Turns this September. Herring’s Audrey debuts later this month. Damon played the role of Dr. Alan Quatermaine on GH for 30 years…until his character was ridiculously killed off during the Metro Court hostage crisis in 2007. Since then, he’s been popping in and out as Alan’s ghost.

Judi Evans (ex-Paulina, Another World; ex-Adrienne/Bonnie, Days of our Lives) is also joining ATWT…but don’t get your hopes up…her character, Maeve, is said to be another one of those short term, “villain of the month” roles.

— Hopefully Evans can return to Days of our Lives as Adrienne once her stint on ATWT wraps up because the soap has lured back Wally Kurth (ex-Ned, GH) as Justin Kiriaskis beginning this August.

Guiding Light‘s co-head writer David Kreizman will be moving to As The World Turns once GL wraps up this September…I guess TPTB have discovered an even faster way of killing ATWT…by bringing on the same people who got GL cancelled!

— While we’re on the subject of grilling World Turns…what is with that new opening sequence? I could have made a better one in iMovie!

— Saundra Santiago (ex-Carmen, GL) will be replacing Patricia Mauceri as Carlotta on One Life To Live. Rumor has it the actress had a problem with the Kyle and Fish storyline.

Michael Lowry (ex-Les, ATWT; ex-Jake, AMC) is also heading to One life To Live in a new recurring role.

The Young and the Restless has announced that John Driscoll‘s first airdate as Phillip Chancellor IV is set for Wednesday, July 15th in Canada. The character will be going by the nickname ‘Chance’ to distinguish himself from his just-returned-from-the-dead pop Phillip Chancellor III. The 28 year-old actor previously starred as Coop on Guiding Light from 2004-2009.

Sean Kanan made his soap comeback last yesterday on The Young and the Restless. Kanan has brought his The Bold and the Beautiful character, Deacon Sharpe, over to Genoa City and will be involved in the stolen art scheme. The move reunites Kanan’s Deacon with his former B&B partner-in-crime Amber (Adrienne Frantz). Before playing Deacon on B&B, Kanan was well known for his turn as A.J. Quartermaine on GH. Anyway, I’m not completely sold on this whole stolen art storyline yet…sure it’ll cause some trouble for Daniel and Amber but why not have him make a play at Victoria? She’s been incredibly boring since they paired her up with JT.

— And now for the week’s biggest news: Melody Thomas Scott has inked a new contract with Y&R. The news comes as fans have been waiting for weeks to see if Scott and Sony could work out a new deal after she refused taking a paycut. Scott confirmed to TV Guide Magazine that Nikki will be written out of the show in August for a few weeks…the actress insists that the storyline “is not to be missed”!

My 80 years old mother loves nikki newman. My 38 years old daughter records it every day while she is at work. My 8 year old grandaughter loves her and thinks she is so pretty. I have watched her for 25 years. The older people are the backbone of the show. Young is not always the way to go. What do we know, we only have 4 generations watching it.
