Is Victor Newman leaving Y&R?

Looks that way…TV Guide Canada is reporting that Eric Braeden will be written out of The Young and the Restless in the next few weeks. It’s reported that the show has asked the actor to take a pay cut in the middle of his contract (which expires next year). Apparently producers can revisit the terms of a contract when a 13-week cycle expires. You’ll remember that the same thing happened to Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) last month and to Jess Walton (Jill) earlier this summer.

Sony and CBS are pretty ballsy to go after actors’ mid-way through contracts. I know the economy sucks and all but this is total disrespect to a signed contract. I recommend you all to check out Nelson Branco’s article at TV Guide Canada where the reporter goes into detail about Braeden’s last tape date and what “The Great Victor Newman” told the cast and crew.

Storyline-wise, Victor and Nikki will head out on a vacation.

Last night, Michael Muhney (Adam) took to twitter and had this to say about the situation:

Not sure what’s going on. None of my business. But I will say, Mr. Braeden & the Victor character are legendary and will never be replaced. @michealmuhney

Let victor go on vacation to some unknown place and when he come back bring Drucilla with him, they make the show. Better yet let Victor an Drucilla come back as lovers.

Did he just die! He flat lined, and the nurse said SORRY! They didn’t even try! If it is true a part of me has died. Victor makes the show magical, without him I can easily give up my addiction. :(

I agree 100% with Jessycat. If Victor is dead I will no longer watch the show after 35 years. I think it’s outrageous that the execs can (try to) re-negotiate a signed contract when it’s not due to expire for another year.

It’s quite impressive how dumb Sony execs are for not wanting to renegotiate with Eric. I think there should be another day time drama around the Newman story. I’d watch that instead of Y&R… I can count 5 useless caracters on that show to get rid of…and its definitely not Victor’s…

I’ve watch Y&R since Jill was a hairdresser. Hans Gruber (original name, now Eric Braeden) or Victor Newman leaving the show is a publicity stunt to induce interest. Victor leaving Y&R for any reason other than dying for real (heaven forbid) is soap opra suicide for Y&R!

I am still in shock… I am hoping that over night the writers turned this into some dream of Adams. It was soo sudden… I hope that they came to their sense because I am not myself. Some prime-time show should rectify him. Maybe Law and Order, OR he should get his own show.

Ok then who is in charge here? Somebody better step up to the plate and stop this or young and the restless willbe placed on the back burner for lack of interest by many viewers. Jack and Victor’s fued has been the main interest in this show for ever. I am 46 and I have been watching this show my whole life it sems. I watched it even before Victor, when Nikki and Paul were togetherthe first time… They need to find out what it is going to take to keep him and leave it alone.

characters/actors and just cheesy story lines, some of which can’t even act …..amber, abby, even deacon, gloria, and bardwell… they’re trying to attract a newer, younger audience but the truth of the matter is the interests of the younger generation is in the here and now, not on some cheesy, unrealistic sappy soap. basically the show is holding onto the remaining original casts of the newmans and the abbotts and even that is going to get old. thanks for ruining my daily hour routine of adultery, scandal, miraculous death-defying odds, baby stealing, and corporate espionage …i guess i better get a real life now!

I have watched Y&R since it first started in the 70s. Eric Braeden is a cornerstone of the show. He is a main character who cannot and should not be eliminated. It wouldn’t be Y&R without Victor Newman. Please – can this be straightened out so Eric will stay with the show? My parents are also faithful Y&R viewers and they feel the same as I do — don’t let Victor Newman leave Y&R!

I can’t believe that this is going to happen. A signed contract is a promise between two people. How unfair for this soap opera’s production, Y&R ,to treat a loyal star with such disrespect. Loyalty should count for something….don’t you think? Let him come back to the Y&R and treat this star with dignity and respect…which he deserves. Someone posted a remark about the show being catered to the older generation. Not true, the show caters to all ages…it’s not just for the older generation but for the young. Young people need to remember that the older generation paved the road for them. Let us not forgert that.

Wow, no more Victor Newman. I just can’t believe they would let him go just like that. I think it’s wrong and disrespectful to the legendary actor. They will definitely lose a lot of fans because of it. I mean what would the show be like without the mustache? I have been watching Y&R since I was a little kid and I believe this will deter me from watching the show anymore.

Please, please please,do something, maybe a miracle, to bring back victor, without him Y&r is a bog ,huge Zero. I am not watching anymore, for me he is the best actor in the world,he is irreplacable. He is so natural,as if its true life, not acting but reality, his emotions, his happiness, he acts so naturaly,he’s attractive, handsome,he’s more handsome, actualy,as they say like wine older. But his heart is like a 20years old,he’s full of love saoul, passion. He’s adorable.I watch everyday his episodes ,and plus he sings,he has a wonderful voice.God bless him.I wish him good health. And I pray for him.

Victor :Newman is mean nasty and coniving and thinks he is some kind of a god who can do no wrong, but he is the focal part of the story, and the center of most nasty plots, and it would mean death to the show to eliminate him. It won’t happen if the producers use their heads.

i have watched y&r since it first came on tv. without victor on it. they can kiss the show goodbye. i love him and Niki together. they were made for each other. get rid of adam, sharon, gloria and her lame husband. they are not good actors. just a bunch of whiners. sharon is so messed up. it is ones like victor, jill, jack and mrs C. that makes the whole show. If you take off some of the oldies i will stop watching the show.
