— CBS has announced that Shemar Moore will be returning to The Young and the Restless as Malcolm Winters on Wednesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 11 (Sept. 9 & 10 in Canada on Global). Moore originated the role of Malcolm from 1994 until 2002. The actor returned for a brief stint from 2004-2005 before he joined the cast of CBS’ Criminal Minds. In a failed attempt, the role was recast with former Family Matters star Darius McCrary from 2009-2011.
“I am excited about returning to The Young and the Restless as a special guest. This is where I got my start, and I am looking forward to reuniting with my soap opera family,” said Moore about his two-day stint in statement released by CBS.
When I spoke with Moore about a year ago, he nixed the idea of a return because he feared that the writers and producers who knew his character the best were no longer there and felt that the new regime wouldn’t do the character justice. Let’s hope that is not the case as the CBS press release states that Malcolm will return to Genoa City to make amends (since he left town a few years ago without a proper goodbye) with his family (Kristoff St. John’s Neil, Christel Khalil’s Lily and Bryton James’ Devon) and catch up on everything that he’s missed.
— Also returning to The Young and the Restless for short guest appearances are Tricia Cast (Nina) and Michael Fairman (Murphy) on August 26 and 27 (airs on Aug. 25 & 26 in Canada) when the soap takes a break from Dylan and remembers the passing of Katherine Chancellor(who was played by the legendary Jeanne Cooper). TV Guide also reports that this will be the time when Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) once again falls off the wagon!
— Many General Hospital viewers were wondering why Lynn Herring’s Lucy wasn’t present when Rafe (Jimmy Deshler) died last week. Head writer Ron Carlivati told Soap Opera Digest that the decision was based on how crowded those episodes were: “There was so much story going on at the hospital with Molly and Rafe, with Alice. It was one more character to add into that mix and the days just became too big and too complicated. So, we decided to give Lucy her own separate moment after the fact [to mourn Rafe].”
Yeah, because TJ just had to be there.
— Poor Theresa, Ethan [#1] married Gwen [#2]! Former Passions stars Travis Schuldt and Natalie Zea got married in Hawaii last week after dating for 11 years.
— Some Days of our Lives scoop: Look for Daniel (Shawn Christian) to get kidnapped by Kristen’s (Eileen Davidson) goons, because everything has to be about Daniel.
Meanwhile, Brady (Eric Martsolf) will learn that he won’t be facing any criminal charges regarding John’s (Drake Hogestyn) attack. With Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) and Victor (John Aniston) by his side, Brady vows to get clean and sober. Roman (Josh Taylor) realizes that Marlena (Deidre Hall) is still in love with John.
Paige (True O’Brien) and JJ (Casey Moss) admit that they are falling in love.
