She said YES!
Sarah Michelle Gellar has agreed to reprise the role of Kathryn Merteuil in the Cruel Intentions continuation pilot for NBC.
The actress made the announcement via Instagram on Wednesday (Feb. 24), where she shared a photo collage of herself with the film’s executive producer and director.
#throwbackthursday (a bit early in Los Angeles) this picture was taken on the eve of production on the original #cruelintentions. Its me #rogerkumble (director) and #nealmoritz (exec producer) and the other is a picture of us now on the eve of production on the new #cruelintentions. That’s right “everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way” #kathrynmerteuil is back!!! I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and @nbctv ) on the new #Crueltv
As mentioned on Feb. 5, the Cruel Intentions TV project picks up 15 years after the film left off and will follow “the drama surrounding the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil as she views for control of Valmont Industries as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her stepbrother Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe) and Annaette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon in the film).”
It has been announced that Bash will be played by American Crime’s Taylor John Smith.
More information on Kathryn has been released, per TV Line, “Kathryn is every bit as sexy, smart and charming as we remember, and she’s now married to the wealthy Pascal Barrett and is at the head of a laudable youth-rehabilitation movement and involved in a local private school.”
“Bash’s arrival — and that of his mother — will throw Kathryn off her game, but she won’t show it.” No word yet if Witherspoon has been approached to reprise her former role.
NBC will announce pick ups for the 2016-2017 television season this May at the annual Up Front presentations.
