Sony Pictures’ Absentia will have it’s Canadian debut this Sunday, Jan. 21, in Canada on Showcase.
The 10-episode thriller stars Stana Katic (Castle) as FBI agent Emily Byrne, who disappears after attempting to track down one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers and is later declared dead. She resurfaces six years later with barely any memory from the years that she’s been missing and must adjust to returning home and learning that her husband has remarried and her son is being raised by another woman.
Absentia also stars Patrick Heusinger (Casual) as FBI agent Nick Durand (Emily’s husband), Cara Theobold (Crazyhead) as Alice (Nick’s new wife), Neil Jackson (Sleepy Hollow) as Jack (Emily’s brother), Angel Bonanni (Shot’s Fired) as detective Tommy Gibbs and Patrick McCauley as Flynn (Emily’s 9-year-old son).
Katic also serves as one of the show’s executive producers. The series was produced in Bulgaria and premiered last fall on Sony’s international pay-TV network AXN. Absentia was picked up by Amazon’s Prime video service and will debut in the U.S., U.K., and Australia later this year.
Premiering on Showcase this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT, Absentia is a great addition to the Canadian specialty channel’s lineup, where it fills the thriller/mystery void left by Jessica Biel’s The Sinner. The series is the perfect vehicle for Katic following her eight seasons run on ABC’s Castle as she’s able to move back and forth from Emily’s vulnerability to her kick-ass agent ways.
Absentia airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showcase.
