Corus Entertainment announced on Friday, September 2, 2022, that Days of our Lives will be moving from Global TV to W Network in Canada, beginning Monday, September 12, 2022, where it will continue to air at 1 p.m. ET/PT.
The move follows the recent announcement that U.S. network NBC would be moving the series to its streaming service Peacock. The soap will air its final episode on Friday, September 9 on NBC and Global before moving to Peacock (in the U.S.) and W Network (in Canada) the following Monday. No announcement has been made yet on what Global will air in DAYS’ old timeslot. NBC Daily News will occupy the former DAYS slot in the U.S.
Days of our Lives was created by Ted and Betty Corday and premiered on November 8, 1965 as a 30-minute series, before expanding to 60 minutes in 1975. Ken Corday currently serves as executive producer along with Albert Alarr. Ron Carlivati has been head writer since 2017.
Canadians will continue to be able to stream Days of our Lives on STACKTV, and through the Global TV app, albeit with a cable subscription to W Network. On Demand episodes will also still be available through cable providers.
“With NBC Universal’s recent decision to move Days of our Lives from NBC to Peacock in the U.S., we had to re-evaluate where the series aired on our networks and felt W Network, as the destination that embraces unique, exceptional and meaningful storytelling, was the right home for this beloved series,” said Daniel Eves, Senior President of Broadcast Networks at Corus Entertainment. “This move presents us with a unique opportunity to deliver the series to a new audience as we head into a new season full of shocking twists, romantic relationships, and endless drama.”
W Network has been the Canadian home of Days of our Lives’ recent spin-off series Beyond Salem and A Very Salem Christmas. The second season of Beyond Salem is slated to premiere as a marathon this Sunday, September 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. W Network is also the Canadian home to a selection of other Peacock exclusives, including Vampire Academy and Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, as well as dramas The Good Fight and Outlander, and Hallmark movies.
W Network can also be streamed via STACKTV and is available on Amazon Prime Video Channels, FuboTV, Rogers Ignite, and Ignite SmartStream.
A transition into streaming seems like the next logical step for daytime dramas, having themselves transitioned from radio in the 1950s. Global will continue to broadcast and stream CBS’s The Young and the Restless. ABC’s General Hospital currently airs and streams on Citytv in Canada. While CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful airs on CTV2 and streams on CTV.ca and the CTV app in Canada; a week’s worth of episodes are also added to Bell Media’s Crave streaming platform each week.
Days of our Lives is produced by Corday Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.
