Daytime newcomer Crew Morrow brings a fresh perspective to The Bold and the Beautiful as Will Spencer. In this exclusive interview with The TV Watercooler, Morrow discusses his journey into the soap world and his on-screen family.
From mirroring his father Joshua Morrow’s (Nick, The Young and the Restless) iconic soap debut with Heather Tom (ex-Victoria, Y&R; now Katie, B&B) to forging new bonds with co-stars Tom, Don Diamont (Bill), and Scott Clifton (Liam), Morrow offers his take on joining the beloved daytime drama. Morrow also offers fans a tease of a potential romance for Will Spencer!
There’s so much love around your first scenes with Heather Tom (Katie), which mirrored your dad’s (Joshua Morrow) first scenes with her when they were on The Young and the Restless together. Did you realize how much of a big deal this “full circle” moment would be to the soap audience when you were filming it?
No. I really didn’t because I wasn’t a fan of the show back then… I wasn’t even alive! But to Heather, she couldn’t get over how much of a trip it was! And yeah, I remember hearing the first reactions to it and seeing the mirrors of the two scenes, and I was like, “Oh, wow, that is pretty similar!”
I’ve read that you auditioned for General Hospital and Days of our Lives in the past, did you have a feeling that things would be different this time with The Bold and the Beautiful? Do you feel that somehow this role resonated more with you?
I didn’t actually think I was going to get this! They had a couple of auditions and I didn’t think I did very well on them. I remember coming in for a callback with [casting director] Christy Dooley and fumbling my lines. I was super nervous and thought “Maybe the next one! Maybe The Young and the Restless will come pick me up. It’s the final one [the I haven’t auditioned for].”
But thankfully, they decided to give me another shot and I got it done!

How familiar were you with Heather and Don before joining the show? Did your dad give you the low-down?
I wasn’t very familiar with them, to be honest, but they knew me! They’ve just been so great. I remember my dad being so excited when I told him that they were going to be playing my TV parents. He was like, “Oh, that is awesome!” He’s especially excited about me working with Heather – he’s a big fan of hers!
How supportive was your dad about you becoming an actor?
I’ve gone through so many hobbies and interests in my lifetime, and I think he kind of just chalked this up to another one, “Okay, yeah. Sure, go ahead!” But he started to realize that I was really serious about it when I went to school for acting. He gave me the rundown and told me what it meant to be an actor and the hardships that I was going to face.
He gave me nothing but support. Both of my parents have just been nothing but kind, gracious, and anything and everything that I could ask for.
That’s awesome! I know you’ve done some movies, so did he walk you through the differences in the soap workload and schedule?
For sure! I had done a couple of movies and when I got to B&B, I saw that we were shooting 50 pages a day! It was definitely a shock. It’s definitely testing my mental capacity too, that’s for sure!
Do you guys run into each at the studio?
Oh yeah! Any time I’m off, or just waiting for scenes and he’s off [as well], I’ll go into his dressing room and we’ll watch a movie, or head over to The Grove and get a bite to eat. It’s been really cool. I’ll be knocking on his door, asking him to hang out!
Will’s return to town obviously teases a potential reunion for his parents Bill and Katie. How keen is he on wanting his parents back together? There’s still Poppy to consider now that she’s out of prison.
Yeah, that’s a tough one! I think when the children get involved, the parents can sort of remember how happy they were together when they had this kid. They are a supercouple, so anything is possible! We’ll see how Will feels about it.
Will loves his mother so much and he knows the past that they share. I just think that he really doesn’t want to see his mother get hurt again. That’s going to take some opening up and some vulnerability for both of them. So, we’ll see how that goes!

It’s safe to say that Will is closer to his mom more than his dad right now.
I think so. Right now, with everything that’s been down and how Will was re-introduced. He did choose to live with his mom.
What’s Will’s relationship like with his older half-brothers Liam and Wyatt? What’s it been like acting opposite Scott Clifton?
Oh, it’s the best! The first couple of scenes I did with Scott were just awesome. As soon as the cameras were rolling and we both sat down at Il Giardino, we just started chopping it up and going back and forth. I was like, “Oh man, this is fun!” We got into a trouble a little bit because we’ll keep going back and forth, you know, adding new lines!
It’s fun. He’s a great scene partner. It mirrors real life because we’re like brothers in real life. We’re always messing with each other. There’s definitely a deep love between the two.
He started on soaps young. Did he offer you any advice?
Yeah, I’ve definitely picked up some strong suits of his! I haven’t been able to pick his brain much about his time on General Hospital or One Life to Live, but just watching him do his thing and how he’s clear with what he’s saying, being punctual, and letting the camera linger on him for a little while. He’s a master at work. I’m just soaking it in! I’m like a sponge.
Will’s got another brother out there! Would you be excited to play out Wyatt’s history with Katie if Darin Brooks comes back?
Yeah, I hope Darin comes back because I’m a fan of his work from Blue Mountain State. I’d really love to work with him! I don’t know how that one would play out [regarding Wyatt and Katie]. We’ll see! That’s a tough one. I’m excited though. I really hope they bring him back.
Could Will and his cousin R.J. (Joshua Hoffman) be romantic rivals down the line?
I think so! I think that’s definitely what’s going to happen. I’m excited. He’s sort of trending to be Will’s enemy on the show. They are family after all, but there’s definitely something brewing between them now.

Can you tease anything about Will’s business ambitions? Would you see him settling in at Spencer Publications or could he be joining his mom at Forrester Creations?
We’ll have to wait and see what Will does. His mother is a Forrester gal, and his dad is the patriarch at Spencer Publications. That’s going to be a difficult choice for him to make and when he does decide, it will be interesting to play.
Should he end up at Forrester, it’s an extra point for Team Logan.
His mother’s a Logan! He’s a mama’s boy.
With Electra Forrester (Laneya Grace) coming to Los Angeles, could there be some romance on the horizon for Will?
Yeah, I think so! I mean, as much as Will doesn’t like to admit it, he’s a playboy like his father. We’ll see. Maybe this new girl can sort of bring him back to reality and they can spark up a scintillating romance between the two.
I’m excited for Electra to come to town… Let’s put it that way!
Are there any shows or streaming platforms that you’re enjoying right now? What are you watching?
Lately, I’ve been going on the Criterion Collection and putting on some oldies with James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Rita Hayworth. That Old Hollywood, black and white 40s and 50s. That’s been really fun for me. I had never seen or heard of movies like East of Eden – there are so many good ones out there that can get forgotten and lost in today’s day and age.
Criterion’s got a lot of those oldies and they’re gems!
