Adrian Rocha, the 23-year-old Carpenter from San Antonio, Texas, was the third houseguest to be evicted on the 27th season of Big Brother.
The TV Watercooler had the opportunity to speak with Adrian following his eviction to discuss how surprised he was that Keanu had voted to keep him in the house, who he’d like to see be put up on the block next, and how he’ll miss Kelley the most.
How surprised were you to learn that Keanu had voted to keep you in the house?
Very surprised! I didn’t know if I could rely on him. It wasn’t anything personal, but there are a few reasons why I couldn’t [believe him]. I was questioning his trust. He lied to me straight up when I asked him if he had one of the powers. I knew he was a liar, so I didn’t know he’d vote for me [to stay]. That mistrust was already there.
I was surprised to find out that he voted to keep me. I really do wish him the best. I hope he makes it far.
At what point did you know that you were going to go home? Did you expect the votes not to land in your favour after you didn’t win the Block Buster?
I knew I was going to go home if Kelley won. If I had won, or if Will had one, I would have been safe. I knew that the only scenario where I would have stayed was if Kelley would lose because I didn’t know where the votes would have landed.
I figured that people would have wanted to jump ship at the last minute, hence Zack and Vince. If I had Zach and Vince’s votes to stay, it would have been a tie. I didn’t know if Lauren would have kept me over Will because she didn’t have my back the whole week. So who knows what she really would have done.
That’s why I really needed Ava to secure the votes. I would have never put her up if she had kept me. But it makes sense for Ava’s game because Will is someone that maybe Ava could beat. He’s also someone she isn’t threatened by, and she wouldn’t be going against the house. I see why Ava did that and I knew it was going to be hard to get Ava to vote for me to stay if I was sitting next to Will.
So, I knew immediately when Kelley won that I was going to go home and it was hard for me to accept that defeat knowing how hard I wanted it and trained for it. It was hard to know that I was going to lose because in that moment, I pretty much knew how the votes were going to go.
That’s why before the Block Buster competition, I was mad but also sad at the same time because I knew that either I or Kelley was going to go home. I was mad that I was put in that situation – especially against Kelley. I love Kelley – she was loyal and I wish we could still play this game together. But Lauren put us in that situation…
Speaking of your training, I was hard to see you end up in this situation after knowing how hard you did train and prepare for the game. What was the biggest surprise for you when you entered the house?
It was weird because it felt like I was watching the show and not playing it.
I was so happy when Ashley won the Veto, even though it probably would have been for the best if she stayed on the block because Kelley wouldn’t have become a bigger target or used as a pawn. Maybe Ashley would have gone home.
It also felt like I wasn’t on Big Brother, but I was in a group with a bunch of liars! [Laughs] No, it felt like I was with friends, except that we’re all lying to each other and are going to vote each other out and compete.
It never felt like I was “playing” Big Brother – it just felt like I was living with people that were playing the game. I don’t know if that makes sense!
You called everyone chickens! Any actual snakes?
Jimmy lied to me the most but I don’t want to call him a snake because that’s exactly what he wants to be called! It could be Jimmy, but if not, maybe Lauren? I don’t know, is she really that scary? I think she was, but I don’t know if she’s a snake.
But, it probably had to be Jimmy. And probably Vince – he’s well positioned in the house. I don’t think he really had my back.
Mickey won HOH. How do you think this upcoming week will shape up?
I fear for my allies, especially Riley and Katherine. I told them, “Man, if you keep me in this house, I’ll protect you from the other side.” People were looking to put them up. They are a flirtmance, or a potential showmance.
I felt that I would have their back if they had mine. After Riley won a competition, I knew that he could easily be one of the next targets and could potentially go up next to Katherine – it just depends on how much Mickey is scared of them.
Who are you hoping goes on the block next?
I’m probably not going to see it, but Jimmy. Jimmy and Lauren are two people that I would want to see on the block. And Morgan.
Who was the easiest houseguest to connect with?
Probably Zach and Kelley. We did try distancing ourselves from each other to try to take the targets off our backs. They didn’t want us in the game. They were scared of us, I guess. I hope Kelley makes it to the end.
Are you going to miss her the most?
Probably. Yeah, it stinks, man. I was so upset when Lauren put me up because I knew one of us was going to go home. I tried to hold up hope and make myself think that we could both stay, but I knew people were scared [of us] at the end because there was that potential of me to break that tie vote.
People were too scared but it was a long shot for Kelley and I to stay in this game, win HOH and make the other side of the house sweat a little bit by making some moves.
I hope that this isn’t my last time playing Big Brother and I would love to play with Kelley again under different circumstances. I wish I would have told her more about game strategy and how to win certain comps, but I didn’t!
Big Brother airs Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Global and CBS. Canadians can stream Big Brother on STACK TV and the Global TV app.
