Keanu Soto was the fifth houseguest to join jury on Big Brother 27. The TV Watercooler had the opportunity to submit questions to Keanu before he entered the jury house.
The 33-year-old “dungeon master” currently living in McKinney, Texas, spoke about his aggressive start, his relationship with Rachel, the impact of the three-nominee “Blockbuster” twist, and his regrets about trusting Vince.
Playing Too Hard and Trusting Vince
- Regrets on Gameplay: Keanu regrets playing too hard at the beginning of the game. He admits he felt he needed to because another houseguest, Jimmy, was also playing hard and creating a divide. Keanu purposely created a large target on himself to take heat off his allies.
- Three Nominees (Blockbuster): He believes his large target backfired because of the season’s three-nominee block, a crucial difference from the two-nominee block he was familiar with. His housemates targeted him because they didn’t want to be nominated next to such a large target. He would play differently knowing this if he played again.
- Betrayal by Vince: His biggest regret and “downfall” was his stubborn trust in Vince, despite Rachel warning him that Vince had lied to her. Keanu said he had a “soft spot” for Vince and kept forgiving him, even though Vince was responsible for Keanu being put on the block multiple times.
- The “Dumb Ass” Comment: When asked about calling houseguests “dumb asses” before his eviction, Keanu took the blame, saying that his willingness to trust so easily probably made him the “dumb ass.” He said he would change his own game by not trusting as easily.
The “Frenemies” Alliance with Rachel
- Relationship Dynamic: Keanu believes his hot-and-cold, argumentative relationship with Rachel actually helped his game. The constant arguing and subsequent making up kept their closeness “under the radar” for a long time.
- Intention to Go to F2: The “Frenemies” alliance was very real to him, and he genuinely intended to take Rachel to the Final Two. He was personally sad and “devastated from a game standpoint” when she was evicted, as she was a huge target who was taking heat off him.
- Regret Not Listening: He expressed deep regret for not taking Rachel’s advice about Vince. He compared it to a younger person not listening to a parent’s advice, noting his own stubbornness, which he says he needs to work on. He jokingly said if he ever plays again, he’d make a bracelet that says, “What would Rachel do?”
Thoughts on the BP Blockbuster Twist
- Value to the Game: Keanu, who benefited from the twist, firmly believes the three-nominee Blockbuster twist is a great addition to the game.
- Social vs. Competitive: He disagrees with the idea that the twist makes the show more competitive and less social. He argues that the Head of Household is “burning three bridges” by nominating three people, and the ability of the players to come back and “mend those relationships” is “100% social.”
- Excitement: He likes that it keeps things “up in the air” as to who will go home.
The season finale of Big Brother airs this Sunday, September 28 at 8:30 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. PT on CBS and Global TV.
