Big Brother Exit Interview: Chuk Anyanwu
Week 5 of Big Brother Season 28 came to an end with the eviction of Chuk Anyanwu, a 27-year-old supply chain analyst from Dallas, Texas. After finding himself sitting on the block next to Barrett, Chuk knew his time in the house was drawing to a close.
Following his eviction, media outlets caught up with Chuk in the press pool to clear up online rumours about his Big Brother knowledge, discuss how being overly guarded hurt his game, and reflect on the shocking crossover alliance he never saw coming. Here are the key highlights from his exit interview.
Addressing the Online Rumours & Lack of BB Knowledge
Following online discourse speculating that Chuk had never watched a season of Big Brother, Chuk candidly set the record straight.
“I can’t even answer the question because I do not know. I truly came into this show knowing how the game works, but not really diving deep into a full season, and that’s on me… I took it with maybe a little too much seriousness while I was in that house, not building certain relationships… I definitely went into it kind of not being my charismatic and bubbly self just because I did not want that to be taken for granted or seen as a weakness for $750,000.”
Shock Over the Crossovers Alliance
Upon learning about the pre-existing "Crossovers" alliance made up of the reality TV icons (Angela, D, Devins) alongside Drew and Barrett, Chuk admitted to being completely caught off guard by how easily he trusted the veterans.
"That was super surprising because it kind of just confirmed that we shouldn't have trusted the icons as easily as we did... Hindsight 20/20, you've got people who have been on a season before—like Angela, D who won Survivor and was on The Challenge, Devins who was on Survivor—why were we so easy to trust them? This isn't their first rodeo... So shocked, but not too shocked."
On Playing Too Guarded and Sitting Next to Barrett
When looking back at his game strategy, Chuk realized that staying overly reserved ultimately contributed to his eviction.
"I was so guarded... If I could go back now, of course I'd be like, 'Chuck, loosen up! You are way too serious, dude. Yes, there's a lot of money, but loosen the freak out. It's still a fun game show.'"
Chuk also noted that once he landed on the block next to Barrett, he knew the house wasn't going to keep him: "I knew they were not going to keep me... They're going to keep Barrett. He's loved by the house, he's a good competitor... I'm sitting next to Big B, they're going to kick me to the dust and kick me home, which I'm so happy to be home."
No Regrets on Alliances
Despite how his game ended, Chuk takes full responsibility for his trajectory and doesn't believe aligning with anyone else would have changed the outcome.
"I think how my gameplay played out was my own doing... I can't really say that I put it onto someone to where I think they would have been able to sway it. So, no one I'd go back and be like, 'I should have worked closely with them, they would have maybe helped me stay in a little bit more.'"
Big Brother airs Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays on Global and CBS. Canadians can stream BB28 on STACKTV and the Global TV app.
