Soap News: Abby & EJ hook up on DAYS! Plus: Y&R rings in the New Year with more backstage drama

Well, at least the backstage drama at The Young and the Restless decided to wait until after Christmas and New Years to make headlines. Here’s what you may have missed – or chosen to forget in the past couples of days:

When the latest edition of Soap Opera Digest hit stands on Friday, former executive producer and head writer Maria Arena Bell commented on fired star Michael Muhney (Adam) on Y&R’s lack of compelling storylines since her departure: “Michael brought amazing dimension and complexity to the role of Adam Newman and his and Sharon’s was a great dark love story. Sadly, that story was seriously derailed in the last year, so I am not surprised that the show would look for a solution to their problematic storytelling decisions. It will be a tough role to recast.”

Then on Saturday, the supposed reasoning behind Muhney’s firing made headlines all over the Internet after sources close to TMZ revealed that the actor was fired because he allegedly bullied his co-stars and even groped Hunter King’s (Summer) breasts on two occasions.

With the TMZ report, Bell then clarified to Highlight Hollywood that she was a fan of Michael Muhney – the actor – and not the person and that “Frankly he should have been let go months before because of his behind the scenes actions.”

Sigh.
