Scottish BBC thriller The Nest has its Canadian and U.S. premiere on Monday, July 13 on Acorn TV.
The psychological thriller stars Martin Compston (Line of Duty) and Sophie Rundle (Bodyguard) as a wealthy Glasgow couple who are deeply in love and would do anything to have a baby. When wife Emily has a chance encounter with a down-on-her-luck 18-year-old Kaya (Sex Education’s Mirren Mack), the two make an instant connection. After learning about her desperate situation, Kaya offers to carry Emily’s last embryo as a surrogate, despite husband Dan’s warning about the legal and moral implications of such an agreement. As buried secrets emerge about Kaya’s past, Dan and Emily start to wonder if they’re being used. Can the dreams of the couple and Kaya be fulfilled, or have the three of them embarked on a relationship of mutually assured destruction? What is the real cost of getting what they want?
The 5-episode series aired in the UK this past spring and received three stars from The Guardian. “The Nest does a nice job of thickening the plot with wider questions about the morality of ‘buying a baby’ and exploiting the vulnerabilities of others without letting it hold up the plot of dissipate suspense.”
Episodes of The Nest premiere weekly, through August 3.
