Masters of the Air
Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, Masters of the Air salutes the brave men of the 8th Air Force, who, through their courage and brotherhood, helped defeat Nazi Germany in World War II. The series comes from Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. Canadian Graham Yost (Slow Horses) also serves as a co-executive producer. Masters of the Air stars Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, and Barry Keoghan. The first two episodes began streaming on Friday, Jan. 26, with new episodes released weekly.
Expats
Expats is about the lives of three American women living in Hong Kong – Margaret (Nicole Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue), and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo) – whose lives intersect after a sudden family tragedy. The new series interrogates privilege and explores what happens when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred. Brian Tee and Jack Huston also star. Expats premiered on Friday, Jan. 26 with two episodes on Prime Video. New episodes will be released weekly until the finale on Feb. 23.
Griselda
Sofia Vergara stars as the savvy and ambitious Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. The series is set in the 1970s-80s Miami where Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as “the Godmother.” Griselda also stars Alberto Guerra, Christian Tappan, Martin Rodriguez, Juliana Aiden Martinez, Vanessa Ferlito and Carolina Giraldo (aka Karol G). The six-episode series premiered on Netflix on Thursday, Jan. 25.
The Repair Shop
The first two seasons of the BBC series The Repair Shop are now streaming on BritBox (as of Thursday, Jan. 25). The Repair Shop follows a workshop where broken or damaged family heirlooms are brought back to life. The series is hosted by furniture restorer and presenter Jay Blades.
The Graham Norton Show
This week’s guests on The Graham Norton Show are Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal from All of Us Strangers; The Holdovers’ Da’Vine Joy Randolph; Bob Marley: One Love’s Kingsley Ben-Adir; musical guest The Last Dinner Party. Airs at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 27 on BBC First in Canada.
Saturday Night Live
This week’s SNL features Dakota Johnson as host with musical guest Justin Timberlake. Airs and streams live at 11:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 27 on Global/the Global TV app/STACKTV and NBC/Peacock (in the U.S.).
D.I. Ray
ITV series D.I. Ray follows Parminder Nagra’s D.I. Rachita Ray who is promoted to join a “culturally specific homicide” which makes her suspect that she’s been chosen for her ethnicity rather than her ability. Rachita soon dives deep into the dangerous world of organized crime. The series also stars Gemma Whelan, Jamie Bamber, Sam Baker-Jones, Maanuv Thiara, and Jessica Temple. All four episodes of the first season are now streaming on CBC Gem. ITV has filed a second season!
Sexy Beast
Based on the 2000 film with the same name, Sexy Beast traces the relationship between best friends and thieves Gal Dove (James McArdle) and Don Logan (Emun Elliott) who become involved in London’s criminal world during the ‘90s. Sarah Greene stars as Deedee Harrison, a captivating adult film star whose ambitions to control her own destiny and her love affair with Gal put her in danger. Stephen Moyer also stars. The first three episodes were released on Thursday, Jan. 25 on Paramount+. New episodes will drop weekly.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (Part 1)
Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and his UMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: to track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby also star. The film premiered on Thursday, Jan. 25 on Paramount+.
