Will CBC Still Air Coronation Street During the 2024 Summer Olympics?

will cbc still air coronation street during the olympics

Fans of Coronation Street in Canada will need to adjust their Corrie intake as CBC will modify the airtimes for the British soap during its coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympics, which will take place in Paris, from July 26 through August 11.

Coronation Street will air two episodes on Thursday, July 24 ahead of the summer games. Beginning Monday, July 29. CBC will broadcast Coronation Street on weekdays at 6:30 p.m. ET (check times for local listings). This means that there will be no late-night repeat or Sunday morning omnibus during the Olympics.

This also means that there will be five half-hour episodes of Coronation Street broadcast each week instead of the usual six.

Coronation Street will continue to stream daily on CBC Gem. The soap will go back to airing six episodes a week following the conclusion of the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Set in the fictional town of Weatherfield, Coronation Street is the longest-running British soap opera in television history and portrays the everyday life of a working-class British community.

Here’s what’s coming up on the cobbles during the next couple of weeks:

  • Police follow up a potential sighting of Lauren
  • Leanne extols the virtues of the Institute to Amy
  • Joel panics as Dee-Dee and Bethany’s detective work leads them a step closer to Lauren
  • Rowan asks Leanne to invest in the Institute
  • Beth recruits Betsy
  • Toyah meets with her consultant
  • Paul hopes to mend his fractured family
  • Debbie comes to Jack’s rescue

The Canadian broadcast of Coronation Street on CBC is a few weeks behind the episodes premiering on ITV in the U.K.
