jully black the hollywood reporter women in entertainment canada 2025 interview

The TV Watercooler had the chance to speak with the incomparable Jully Black, who was named as one of ‘The Most Powerful Women in Canadian Entertainment.’

We’ll be diving into Jully’s monumental return to the stage with her first headlining tour in 17 years. Jully shares what it was like to finally embark on that long-awaited journey, how it represented betting on oneself, and the profound impact of connecting with audiences in a “kinesthetic” way. She’ll also reveal which city brought the loudest cheers and give a special shout-out to Brampton’s Rose Theatre for a sold-out show.

Get ready to be inspired by Jully Black’s powerful insights on legacy, self-investment, and sharing your gifts with the world!

You recently completed your first headlining tour in 17 years! What was that like?

That was phenomenal! It was [such] a sense of accomplishment. I’m just going to speak straight, if I were to die before actually taking the chance of doing something that’s been pending for 17 years, then what good would my legacy have been? What good is that?

So, [going on that tour] really represented those who were afraid to bet on themselves. I showed that you can build a team and invest in yourself. Invest in your music, which serves my soul. But even more so, it serves so many other people? So why hoard it? People are hoarding their gifts and their talents.

It’s like I’m speaking into your soul right now. When are we going to stop being on “the gram” and have something that’s kinesthetic? To be where I was able to touch and feel.

We’re doing it again next year!

Where was your loudest crowd?

Oh, I think the loudest crowd was Ottawa, at the NRC [National Arts Council]. And it was on February 28. I’ll never forget that it was the last day of Black History Month. To be there and to celebrate legacy, love, and make black history as a woman who is totally leading space where if you’re not sure about yourself and think there may not be room for you – it was incredible.

I’m going to give an honourable mention to Brampton’s Rose Theatre! We sold that baby out! 898 tickets sold, so shout to Brampton!
