USA Network and Universal Cable Productions confirmed that Meghan Markle will depart Suits when the series wraps its seventh season early next year.
Clarence House announced the engagement of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry this past Monday (Nov. 27), with the couple expected to wed in May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. (You can check out the interview conducted by BBC News with the royal couple below).
“From all of us at USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, we want to send our most heartfelt congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement. Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her. We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to Suits, and we wish her the very best,” said the network statement.
Series creator Aaron Korsh told Radio 4’s Today programme that he and the writers have been working on a way to write Rachel out of Suits almost a year ago, “I knew from a year ago that this relationship was burgeoning. And I had a decision to make because I didn’t want to intrude and ask her, ‘hey what’s going on and what are you going to do?’. So collectively with the writers, we decided to take a gamble that these two people were in love and it was going to work out.”
Suits fans can also expect a wedding for Markle’s character, paralegal turned lawyer Rachel, to her boyfriend Mike (Patrick J. Adams).
Deadline reported on Nov. 13, that both Adams and Markle were eyeing an exit after the seventh season. No confirmation yet as to whether or not Adams will be leaving the series, although he did congratulate his co-star on Monday with a great joke, “She said she was just going out to get some milk…” and later added “Your Royal Highness, you are a lucky man and I know your long life together will be joyful, productive and hilarious. Meghan, so happy for you, friend. Much love.”
